My Grandparents, Issac Jacob and Juanita Georgia
(Swindle) Hamilton. This picture was taken while they were
visiting my Uncles in California in October, 1957.
Uncle Jim and Uncle Ray had lived in California
since the end of WWII.
My Great-Grandparents, Henry Levi Henderson and Nancy Elizabeth
(Cobb) Hamilton, and James Wilson and Cordelia (Arthur)Swindle,
my Mother's Grandparents, all settled in and around Maple Grove,
in Jasper County Missouri in the early 1900's when my
Grandparents were small children. My Grandfather was born
in Roane County Tennessee, August 16, 1889,and when he was
just a toddler, his Father and Mother pulled up roots and
moved out of Roane Co. Tennessee, traveling into Kentucky,
and from there on west to Missouri arriving in Jasper County,
Missouri in 1910. Henry had worked in the coal mines in
Tennessee and worked his way to their destination. Grandmother
was born in Indian Territory near Tulsa, Oklahoma March 15, 1900,
she was part Cherokee. As I was told, they settled across the
section from the Hamiltons and eventually she and Grandpa met,
the rest is history.
My Grandparents raised five children, my Mother being the youngest.
Most of my family have remained in this area from that time.
A few have left to settle in other areas only to return in later
years, some of them have yet to return, making their homes in
various parts of the country. All my grandparents are gone now,
but not forgotten. I now live about 15 miles from where they
first settled in Missouri in 1910, however, there is nothing
left to be found of their first homes in Maple Grove, Missouri.
I will be adding more on the genealogy at a later date.
