Jester Bag
This is a little bag that can be made from small scraps of material. You need, a round metal ring 1 1/2 inches across, 4 jingle bells, and a nice fancy thin ribbon about 6 inches long. Its really quite easy. Also, two lengths 9 inches by 25 inches, in contrasting colours or patterns
Here is a plan of the pattern, allow an extra 1/2 inch for seam allowance all the way round.
When placing the pattern onto the material, first fold in half so the material measures 9 inches by 25 inches. Now place pattern with the fold line on the fold of the material. Pin and cut out , try to use pinking sheers to stop fraying. Do this with both pieces.
Assembly
First , place wrong sides together, and pin.
Next, either, machine sew or hand sew using back stitch starting where indicated, and going round the edge, and finishing at stop point.
Now before turning right side out, snip into seam at corners so that when it is turned it will lie smooth, also cut off points to just before seam allowance.
Turn right side out, and press smooth. Sew up the remaining space with top stitch.
When ironed, fold the points together ( with the material that you have chosen to be the inside of the bag showing on the outside) so you have a basic shape that looks like the pattern.
I have found the best finish is achieved if the next step is hand sewn, but it can be done on the sewing machine.
To start, with the material folded as described, put a pin about one inch down from where the points turns to the main square of the material.
This is where you start sewing.
Now top stitch or blanket stitch from here to the bottom corner.
Repeat on the other side.
Turn the bag right sides out now.
With the points facing away from you , take the corners at the bottom of the sides that you have just sewn , bring them together and sew,(just the tips of the corners).
This allows the bag to have a base to stand on.
Take your ribbon and sew one end to the corners you have just sewn, and to the other end of the ribbon attach the metal ring.
Take the jungle bells and sew one to each of the points.
Make sure these are attached to the inside material of the points.
You are now finished assembly!
Take the four points together and thread them through the metal ring, until they come to where you sewed up the sides.
To get the effect, I find if you put a screwed up plastic bag inside before you pull the points through it looks much better.
