3rd of July 1830. Know all men that I BRAMLEY HOLOWELL of the County of Haywood and state of Tennessee do make this my Last will and Testament in manner and form following to wit. My will and desire is that all my Just debts be paid in manner and form following to wit. In due time I give and bequeath to my son JOHNATHON HOLOWELL four dollars to him and his heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my son SILAS HOLOWELL four dollars to him and his heirs forever. I give and bequeath unto my son EPHRAIM HOLOWELL four dollars to him and his heirs forever. I give and bequeath unto my __ dauter MARY ALFORD four dollars to her and her heirs forever. I give to my son WILLIE HOLOWELL one bay mare and negro boy Bob to him and his heirs forever. If in case he WILLIE HOLOWELL should fail to make a right at 21 years old to a tract of land sold in Carolina Wayne County to JESSE BOGUE the above mentioned bay mare & boy Bob is to be equally divided my two mentioned sons JOHNATHON & SILAS HOLOWELL. I give and bequeath to my daughter EDNY HOLOWELL six Negroes, to wit Sam, Fany, Maria, Aaron, Harriette and Laurence and all the remaining part of my property let it consist in with my stock money House & kitchen furniture after paying the legacies & Just debts Except the said EDNEY HOLOWELL should die before she arrives at the age of twenty-one or dies without an heir lawfully begotten of her body & if so my will is to be equally divided between my children. My will is at my death that my daughter feel herself fully satisfied for a note her guardian holds against me. If not the property devised for her is to be sold and lastly I nominate and appoint my sons JOHNATHAN & SILAS HOLOWELL Executors to this my last will and testament. I CAROLINE M. HOLLOWELL do make and declare this my last will and testament revoking & making void all other wills made by me at any previous time. First, I direct that my funeral expenses & all my legal debts be paid as soon after my death as possible and of such monies as I may be possessed of or that may come into the hands of my executors. Secondly, I request that my executor erect at the expense of my estate a handsome marble couch over the remains of my late husband Dr. JOHN HOLLOWELL & that his grave be enclosed with a neat substantial iron railing. Thirdly, I give and bequeath to my brother Dr. SAMUEL R. SKILLERN during his natural life and at his death to his children the following negroes, viz; Henry & Amanda, his wife, also Augustus & Amanda's youngest child. I also wish above mentioned negroes secured to Dr. SAMUEL SKILLERN & his heirs forever. Should Dr. S. R. SKILLERN die without heirs these negroes Henry, Amanda, her youngest child & Augustus are to revert to my surviving Brothers & Sisters. Fourthly, I give and bequeath to my beloved MARTHA B. SKILLERN all the remainder of my property real & personal & mixed. I have a few small momentoes which I have requested her to distribute among my friends. Should my brother CLAUD HOLLOWELL SKILLERN survive my mother Mrs. M. S. SKILLERN I wish her to secure the negro boy Andrew now about 14 years of age to said C. H. SKILLERN. I do hereby nominate my friend THOMAS MARTIN my Executor. In witness whereof I herewith affix my hand and seal this the 11th day of May 1857. CARRIE M. HOLLOWELL. Witness: Mrs. A. P. SKILLERN, JOHN C. HOLLOWAY. Since the foregoing will was written my brother Dr. SAMUEL R. SKILLERN having removed to a non slave holding state becomes unqualified to own slaves therefore I revoke the bequest (of negroes) made in his favor & hereby bequeath to my beloved mother Mrs. M. B. SKILLERN during her life all property which may remain to my estate after my just & legal debts shall have been paid including my funeral expenses & the marble monument & iron railing directed to be placed over my beloved husband Dr. JOHN T. HOLLOWELL & a sum of five hundred which I wish given and secured to my neice CARRIE H. WINSLOW in case she should survive me should JAS. A. P. SKILLERN continue kind & affectionate to my dear mother Mrs. M. B. SKILLERN I wish her to bequeath him Augustus whom he shall hold as a slave on the condition of his providing continuing a kind master to the said Augustus otherwise he forfeits this claim at the death of my mother which I pray a merciful Heaven will long avert the small amount of property inherited by her from me should be equally divided between my surviving brothers & sister.
