The last will and testament of THOMAS HOLLOWELL, SENIOR of Lower Norfolk Co. being sick and weak in body but in perfect mind and memory I do make this my last will and testament following: 1 stly I do bequeath both my Soul to God that gave it and my body to the Earth to be buried and my worldly goods as followeth: 2 ndly - I do give unto my sonne HENRY HOLLOWELL all the Land hee now Liveth on and that hee has Cleared and builte upon and all along to the Weather Edge of the thickett next to his Cleared ground and called ye Great Thicket and soe along to the corner of the Swampe and soe along ye Swampe side to the head of the land taking in Chinckepin Ridge and the Thickett and all of which land I doo give unto my sonne HENRY HOLLOWELL and to his heirs of his body begotten forever and in defaulte of such heirs then the land to go to the next Brother. 3 rdly - I doo give unto my loving wife ALCE HOLLOWELL, my plantation I now liveth on and all the rest of my land that I have not given away for my said wife to enjoy and make youse of dureing hurr naturall life and after hurr decease I doo give the said land unto my two Sonnes EDMOND HOLLOWELL and JOHN HOLLOWELL to them and to the heirs of their body begotten forever and to be equally divided between my two sonnes EDMOND and JOHN with all houses, orchards and fences that I have shall be ye said land and my sonne EDMOND to have ye furst choyce and in defaulte of such heirs then ye land to go to ye next brother of the youngest sonne. 4 thly - I doo give unto my sonn THOMAS one cow. 5 thly - All that is left of my estate of whatsoever nature I do give unto my loving wife ALCE HOLLOWELL and after hurr decease of what is then left to be divided equally by two naibors among my five sonns and three daughters herein named to say: HENRY, JOSEPH, BENJAMIN, EDMOND, and JOHN and my daughters SARAH HOWARD and ELIZABETH and ALCE and if aney do so decease before such division then to be divided among them that are heare named and to be then living. In the Name of God Amen I THOMAS HOLLOWELL being Sick & Weak of body but of Sound and perfect memory doo Make this my last Will & Testament revoking all other wills by me made and this to be held and Deemed my last will in manner and form following: First I give my Soul to God who gave it more trusting in the above Merrits of my Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ for Redemption, and my body to the ground to be decently buried acording to the discretion of my Executor hereafter named; and my worldly goods it hath pleased God to bestow upon mee to be disposed of as followeth: Imprimes my will is that all my just debts bee paid by my Executor hereafter named. Item I give unto my Daughter MARY HOLLOWELL fower hundred acres of Land lying & being at the head of the westerne branch of Elizabeth River to her & her heirs lawfully begotten of her body. Item I give and bequeath unto my Sons THOMAS and JOHN HOLLOWELL a parcle of land, being part of the Land which I live upon, being at the fishing Creeke and Soe running to the white Oak branch & Soe right over to MORRIS DEALES (VEALES), my Son THOMAS to have that parte where I live and my Son JOHN to have that part next the fishing Creek to bee Equally Divided between them which said Land I give to them and those heirs lawfully begotten for Ever. My wife must have her thirds of the plantation and all the Orchards during her widow hood, and the rest of my land backward I give and bequeath unto my Sons WILLIAM and LUKE to them and their heirs lawfully begotten forever to Enjoy it when they come to Age to bee Equally divided between them. Item I give unto my Daughter MARY, one feather bed and bedstead, two pillows, one pair of blankets & one Rugg, two Cows with Calves or Calves by their sides & one Iron Pott & pot hooks & two pewter Dishes & two Ewes & Lambs to bee Delivered to her at the day of her Solemination of her marriage. Item I give & bequeath unto my Son THOMAS HOLLOWELL two Cows in full of his portion and all the right of my personale Estate, after my death and those two legacyes (viz) my Daughter MARY, and my Son THOMAS are paid. I give and bequeath unto my loving wife SARAH HOLLOWELL, one Mare and one Side Saddle & one third part of all the rest of my personale Estate and the other two thirds my will is Shall be Equally Divided between my Children (Vizt) JOHN, WILLIAM, ELIZABETH, KATHRIN, and LUKE and I do make and ordain my loving wife SARAH HOLLOWELL to be whole & Sole Exectrix of this my last Will & Testament & I doo desire my Said Executrix that whereas I have a poll of very good Carpenters tools that they not bee sold but kept & paid to my Sons JOHN & WILLIAM in part of their portions when they come to Age. In the Name of God Amen March the fifteen Seventeen hundred & sixteen I JOHN HOLLOWELL of the county of Norfolk in the Colony of virginia being Sick in body but praised be god in perfect ans Sound Memory Doe make and ordaine this my Last will and Testament in Manner and forme following (viz). I Give unto my Daughter SARAH HOLLOWELL one Good feather bed with a pare of sheets and one pare of blankets and one Rugg and Boulster and Two pillows to be Delivered to her when comes of age or at the day of her marriage. I BENJAMIN HOLLOWELL being in prefect Health and memory do ordain this my last will viz: Item I give and Bequeath unto my well beloved Daughter ELIZABETH HOLLOWELL one parcel of Land that is to say the Dogwood Ridge with two hundred acres for to begin in the Bottom of the thick neck So running with a Streight Line to the GALLBERRYS so along to the white oak noiell So still along that side to make up the said Land I give the aforesaid Land to her and her Heirs for Ever. Blankets one pr. sheets Bedstead matt and cord the Choice of my Beds and two Ewes and Lambe and one black walnut Table and six Charis and one small Chest to her and her Heirs for Ever. I also Give to her the said SARAH HOLLOWELL the use of the new Room of my Dwelling House and the New Kitchen and Priviledge of what Land she can tend with fire wood and ___ sheep sufficient for her use untill she shall marry or Depart this life which shall first happen. 8thly I Give and Bequeath unto my Couson WILLIAM SCOTT son of my Brother WILLIAM SCOTT my Plantation whereon I now live and all the appurtenances thereto belonging and my Water Mill and all the Conveniences belonging to him. I, JOHN HOLLOWELL, of Norfolk County in Virginia, being in perfect mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as followeth: 1 stly - I recommend my Soul to Almighty God that gave it to me and my Body to the Earth to be decently buried. 2 ndly - I give unto my son JOHN HOLLOWELL my plantation which I now dwell on with all the land belonging to it and the water mill that is on it with the old millstones in the house and Iron Sledge, also I give him my large Bible and Scrawtone all of which land, mill and other things I give unto my said son JOHN HOLLOWELL and his heirs forever. 3 rdly - I give unto my son THOMAS HOLLOWELL the plantation which I bought of my Cousin THOMAS HOLLOWELL with all the land belonging to it containing one hundred and ten acres, also the water mill that is on it and the Iron Crow and my whip saw and currying knife and one good Silver Spoon and other things herein mentioned I give unto my said son THOMAS HOLLOWELL and his heirs forever. 4 thly - I give unto my daughter RACHEL COPELAND one Silver Spoon, also I give unto my daughter MARY HOLLOWELL one Silver Spoon, also I give unto my daughter SARAH HOLLOWELL one Silver Spoon and one pair of millstones. 5 thly - I lend unto my loving wife SARAH HOLLOWELL the use and service of all my estate of what sort or kind soever for her use for herself and family during her Natural life. 6 thly - But my wife shall not sell, waste nor imbezzle any of the estate that is in her care. 7 thly - After the experation of my wife's Life I then give all my estate (negroes, lands, lots, goods, and stock) of all sorts only which is already given away to be equally divided amongst all my children that shall then be living, by three hones men such as my children shall think proper to choose to appraise and divide my said estate among them viz, RACHEL, MARY, SARAH, JOHN and THOMAS. But if any be dead before such division then only among them that are living all negroes and other estate that they shall enter in possession such estate as shall fall to their share I give unto them and their heirs forever. 8 thly - I order that my estate be only inventoried and not appraised after proving this will. 9 thly - In case my wife shall die before my two sons JOHN and THOMAS be of age to take care of themselves I desire my brother THOMAS HOLLOWELL shall take care of them and their estate. 10 thly - I make and ordain my loving wife SARAH HOLLOWELL and my two sons JOHN and THOMAS HOLLOWELL my whole and sole Executrix and Executors of this my last will and testament making void all other will and testaments before made. I Give to my Cousin HENRY PERSON son of FRANCIS PERSON the Plantation that I now live on and all the Land thereunto belonging to the Heirs of his Body Lawfully begotten and if he shall die without such Heir, it shall return to his brother JESSE and his Heirs. I Give to my Cousin JOHN PERSON son of FRANCIS PERSON Ten Pounds Cash and one feather Bed and furniture one Iron pott. I Give to my Cousin SAMUEL PERSON son of FRANCIS PERSON my ___ Water Still and my Young Mare Bridle and Saddle. I Give all the remainder of my Estate both Real and personal equally to be divided between my Cousins hereafter named GEORGE GLOVER, ELIZABETH GLOVER and SARAH GLOVER, JACOB PERSON, SAMUEL PERSON, JESSE PERSON and HENRY PERSON sons of FRANCIS PERSON and MARY PERSON, SARAH PERSON and JESSE HARGRAVES son BENJAMIN. In the Name of God Amen I SARAH HOLLOWELL Widdow of THOMAS HOLLOWELL Late of Norfolk County Deceased being Sick but Thanks be to almighty God Of perfect Sence & Sound Memory I doe ordain this to be my Last Will and Testament. Firstly, I Recomend my Soul into the Hands of the almighty God that gave it me. Second, I give & Recommend my Body to the Earth to be Buried in a Christian like & Decent manner at ye Discretion of my Executor. And as Touching what few worldly Goods it hath been please the Lord to bless me with I give & Despense of in the manner & form as followeth. 1stly I will & Desure that all my Lawfull & Just Debt shoul be Sattisfied & Paid. 2dly I give & bequeath unto my Son ABSOLOM HOLLOWELL my Stilyards & Ten Shillings in money. 3dly I give & bequeath unto my Daughter MARY BACON my Trunneld Bead, Bead Stead & Furniture one gallon Stone Jugg and Thirty Shillings in money. 4thly I give & bequeath unto my Daughter CHARRITYE SANDERS forty Shillings in money, one pair of Sheets & four yards of Cotton Cloth. 5thly I give & bequeath unto my son SAMUEL HOLLOWELL one pair of Sheets. 6thly I give & bequeath unto my Son DEMCY SCUTCHENS HOLLOWELL one Three Gallon Iron Pott and Hooks, one Iron Spitt, one Iron Pestle & Three Pounds in money. 7thly I give & bequeath all the Remaining Part of my Estate to be Sold to the best advantage & the money to be Equally Divided between my Two Sons SAMUEL HOLLOWELL & DEMCY SCUTCHENS HOLLOWELL Provided my Son SAMUEL HOLLOWELL Returns from Sea again And if he does not The money aforsaid to be Equally Divided between my Two Sons ABSOLOM & DEMCY SCUTCHENS & my Daughter MARY BACON. 8thly I doe Ordain Substitute and appoint my Son in Law RICHARD BACON, JUNIOR to be my whole & sole Executor of this my Last Will & Testament, hereby making void and Disanualing all other Wills & Testaments heretofore by me made as witness my Hand and Seal this the 1st day of November 1758. In the Name of God Amen, I HOLSTEAD HOLLOWELL being in Health and think it proper to give my worldly Goods to my Son & Daughter as I think best &c of Norfolk County. Item I give and bequeath unto my well beloved Son BENJA. HOLLOWELL the upper part of this Plantation joining to HENRY HOLLOWELL as I now live on begining at a small Pine by the Swamp Side, then runing up a Ditch cross the Plantation, then streight across the said Land to the back Line that divide JNO. PINKERTON & the said Land being two hundred and fifty Acres of Land more or less also the said Land I bought of PETER HERBERT and also the Place called the Island as I bought of DANL. SWENY. Item I give and bequeath to him three Negro Mans called old Robin and young Robin and Will and Negro Woman Nancy also two Feather Beds and Furniture stand up Stairs one Desk and two cows and Calves and two Ewes and Lambs four Sows and twenty Piggs six Pewter Plates, one small Bason, two Dishes and sound Iron Pott, Pine Table, one Bible and common Prayer Book and my Gun & furniture belonging to the Gun, three Weeding Hoes and Club Axx and five lone Chains. I give and bequeath to my well beloved Daughter LOVE HOLLOWELL the remaining part of this Plantation with a Place called Thick neck joining to it, being two hundred Acres more or less, also a Negro Fellow called Catnes & Negro Boy called George, and two Negro Girls called Patience & Jenny my moveable Estate ungiven. Item. My Will is that all my just Debts be paid out of it and the remaining Part that is left both within Doors and without to my Daughter LOVE HOLLOWELL. Item My Will and Desire is that my loving Wife SAPPHIRE HOLLOWELL shall have the use of my Daughter LOVE's Legacies during her Life and my Son BENJAMIN Legacies till he come to the Age of twenty Years. Item I ordain and appoint my loving Wife SAPPHIRE HOLLOWELL my whole and Sole E:E: of this my last Will and Testament as Witness whereof I have set my hand and fixt my Seal this twenty day of May 1762. Item I Give & bequeath unto my Son SCOTT HOLLOWELL the land & plantation whereon I now live and one Negroe man named Gideon and a Girl named Betsy one pair of money scales one Iron Spitt and a large pan of stillyards and half my tools to him and his heirs. Item I give & bequeath unto my Daughter COURTNEY HOLLOWELL one Negro man named Titus one negro boy named Micah to her & her Heirs. Item I give & bequeath unto my Daughter SARAH HOLLOWELL one Negro boy named Anson to her & her heirs. Item I give & bequeath unto my Daughter MARY one Negro boy named Jonas & one small Gilted trunk to her & her Heirs. Item I give & bequeath unto my son THOMAS HOLLOWELL one Negroe man named Moses & one feather Bed & the furniture thereunto belonging to him & his Heirs. Item I give & bequeath unto my wife SARAH HOLLOWELL the use & labor of Stephen, Hagar, Dinah, Samson, during her Widowhood & all the rest of my Estate during her Widowhood not to be wasted by her nor no body See an Inventory to be taken of my estate adfter my Wifes Decease or marriage then my Estate is to be divided as followeth: if Dinah has three Chilren more that lives one for each of my youngest children to wit SARAH, MARY & THOMAS if not Item I give & bequeath unto my Daughter SARAH HOLLOWELL I give negro Stephen and unto my Daughter MARY HOLLOWELL I give negro Dinah and as for my maid Hagar I give her liberty to live with any of my children as She Shall see fit and as for all the rest of my estate it is to be Divided amongst all my children & I do appoint my Wife SARAH HOLLOWELL & my two Sons SCOTT HOLLOWELL & WILLIAM HOLLOWELL my whole & sole Executors and Executrix of this my last Will & Testament in Witness where of I have here unto set my hand & Seal this twenty second day of May 1780. In the name of God Amen. I JOHN HOLLOWELL of County of Norfolk Virginia being of a sound memory and in my perfect senses doth make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say first in order to pay my just debts I will that a certain piece of Land bounded thus beginning on the streight road at DEMPSEY WATTS line running from thence down as the road runs to the head of a small branch that makes from the creek from thence a streight course to the creek from thence as the creek runs to WATTS's line from thence to the first station should be leased out on the best terms not above thirty years or to be sold if the above terms wont answer the purpose two other small lots of Land to be leased out on the same terms twenty acres each more or less bounded as the ditch runs to the creek. Another lot to be leased out where WM. BOULTON now lives not above twenty years beginning at the road on the large Branch running as the north prong runs to HARBOT's line thence down his line to BUFKINs. All the residue of my lands houses and mill I give to my son THOMAS and his heirs forever and the Lease lands after the lease is out to return to my son THOMAS and the heirs of his Body in case of my son THOMAS dying without heirs of his body I give the plantation whereon I now live houses and mill to my daughter SARAH HOLLOWELL and my grand daughter SARAH WAINRIGHT and their heirs of their body to be equally divided my will is that all profits arising from my mill should be converted to the repairs of her untill she is thurley repaired. My will is that my wife should have the use of the whole of my lands that is not to be leased out houses and all the moveable estate that shall be inventoried after my death during her natural life provided she make no waste thereof only for plantation use. After her death the whole of my moveable estate that shall be remaining to be divided between my four daughters and JAMES DUFF him to have one third which is due to his mother by law: one Bed to be excepted out of the division for my son THOMAS after he comes to the age of twenty one years I will that my son THOMAS should have the whole of my carpenter's and Joiners tools. And lastly I appoint GEORGE WAINRIGHT executor to this my last will and testament and my wife MARY exox. Also with full and absolute power to act in all respects whatever, as witness my hand and seal this twenty first day of July one thousand seven hundred and eighty five. JOHN HOLLOWELL. In case my son THOMAS should die with without heirs of his body I give my woods plantation to be equally divided between my two daughters MARY and ANN and the heirs of their Body forever. This last will and testament and Codicil thereto of JOHN HOLLOWELL deceased were this day proved by the oath of ADAM ARMSTRONG and THOMAS BATSON; & ordered to be recorded: MARY HOLLOWELL the exox. therein named having taken the oath and given Bond and security according to law: Certificate for obtaining a probat in due form was granted her. I SCOTT HOLLOWELL of Isle of Wight County being of sound mind & memory do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament, disannulling & revoking all former Wills or bequeaths heretofore made by me. First I Give & bequeath to my Brother WILLIAM HOLLOWELL the land & plantation where I now live, to him & his Heirs forever. Secondly I desire that all my Just debts shall be paid, and the remainder of my Estate of every kind & quantity I give and direct to be equally divided amongst my sisters CORTNEY & MARY & my Brother THOMAS HOLLOWELL to be at their disposal & lastly I Constitute & appoint my Brother WILLIAM HOLLOWELL to be my whole & sole Executor of this my Last will & testament. I WILLIAM HOLLOWELL of the County of Isle of Wight & State of virginia being weak and sick of body tho of a sound mind & memory do see fit to make and ordain this to be my Last Will & Testament in manner & form following. First I Give & bequeath unto my sister COURTNEY HOLLOWELL my sister MARY HOLLOWELL & my brother THOMAS HOLLOWELL the land & plantation whereon SCOTT HOLLOWELL formerly lived who gave the same in his last Will and Testament to me that is to say I Give the said Land to be equally divided between my above mentioned two sisters COURTNEY & MARY and my brother THOMAS HOLLOWELL, to them their heirs & assigns forever. Secondly I lend the use of a Negro boy named Ephraim to my sister COURTNEY HOLLOWELL until he shall arrive to the age of twenty one years. Thirdly I lend the use of a negro girl named Lucresay to my sister MARY HOLLOWELL until she shall become eighteen years of age. Fourthly I give unto the above mentioned two Negroes, to wit, Ephraim and Lucreacy five Pounds of Law full money to each of them paid by my Executor out of my Estate as soon as they shall arrive to the ages above mentioned. Fifthly I Give & bequeath unto my sister COURTNEY HOLLOWELL, MARY HOLLOWELL, & THOMAS HOLLOWELL all the rest & residue of my Estate to be equally divided between them after paying my Just debts & funeral expenses. Lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint JAMES BARLOW SENR., COURTNEY HOLLOWELL and MARY HOLLOWELL my whole & sole executor & Executrix of this my Last Will & Testament. This will was presented in Court by JAMES BARLOW one of the executors therein named who made oath thereto according to law, and the same being proved by the oath of ROBERT GLOVER & THOMAS BRANTLEY two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be Recorded - and on the motion of said Executor who together with THOMAS GIBBS & ROBERT GIBBS his securities entered into and acknowledged their bond int he penalty of five thousand Dollars with condition as the Law directs. I THOMAS HOLLOWELL of the County of Isle of Wight and State of Virginia being weak in body tho of sound mind and memory do think proper to make this my last will & Testament in manner and form following: First I Give and bequeath to my two sisters COURTNEY HOLLOWELL and MARY HOLLOWELL all my Land which was given me by my brother WILLIAM HOLLOWELL to be equally divided between them & I give the same to them & their heirs & assigns forever, Secondly, my will and desire is that all the rest and residue of my estate be it of what soever nature or kind it may I Give to be equally divided between my above mentioned two Sisters COURTNEY and MARY HOLLOWELL to them and their heirs and assigns forever, and lastly I do appoint my Sisters COURTNEY and MARY HOLLOWELL my whole executrix of this my last will & Testament. At a court held for Isle of Wight County the 4th day of June 1804. This Will was presented into court by MARY HOLLOWELL one of the executrix therein named who gave affirmation thereto according to Law, and the same being proved the oaths of JAMES BARLOW and THOMAS BRANTLEY the witnesses thereto and ordered to be Recorded & on the motion of said executrix who together with JAMES BARLOW her Security entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of Two thousand Dollars with Condition as the Law directs. Certificate is granted her for obtaining a probat thereof in due form of Law. (Isle of Wight Co., VA. Book ___, p. 22).

In the name of God Amen. I, ABSALOM HOLLOWELL of Norfolk County and State of Virginia being of sound understanding do make this my Last Will in manner & form as follows. Item I leave my Tract of land containing about sixty acres being in the County of Norfolk and bought of BATEMAN MILLER to be sold by Executor hereafter appointed and the money arising from the sale of said land to be equally divided between my brother RIDDICK HOLLOWELL, WILLIAM HOLLOWELL, and my sister MILLICENT OLDNEY of the County of Perquimans and State of North Carolina my Brother FREDERICK HOLLOWELL of Norfolk County State of Virginia that to say one fourth to each and their heirs forever. Item I give after my funeral expenses and all my just debts is paid all this property and money I have on hand and all that may be due me to be equally divided as above that is to say to Brother RIDDICK HOLLOWELL, Brother WM. HOLLOWELL, and my sister MILLICENT OLDNEY of Perquimans county north Carolina and my Brother FREDERICK HOLLOWELL of Norfolk County and State of Virginia to them and their heirs forever. And lastly I constitute nominate and appoint my Brother FREDERICK HOLLOWELL Executor to this my last Will hereby revoking and annulling all other wills either written or verbal by me heretofore made.
