Will proved 17 Dec 1872, Caldwell Co., KY; I Noah Hollowell, in consideration of the uncertainty of life and afflicted with sickness, though of sound mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and Testament. (to Wit:) 1. I will that my grave be dug 2 ft. and 2 in. deep besides the vault, the vault to be made large enough and deep enough so that the box containing the cofin may not touch anything, the box to rest on 2 dry bricks, the coffin to be well made and lined with white flannel. I want my grave to be west of the graves of my father and mother's graves, with a monument to be of the best materials, the box containing the coffin, after it is placed in the vault, is to be covered with hart of white oak plank, before the grave is filled up. 2. I give six hundred dollars ($600.00) to put iron railing around the grave yard where I am buries. 3. I give unto Edward Hollowell seventy acres of land it being the place I purchased of J. P. Hollowell and known as the Brookins Place and two hundred dollars, the money to be paid to him as his necessities may require it. 4. I give to Lucretia, the daughter of Eliza Brandon, three hundred dollars. 5. I give to Molly Mitchell, the daughter of Lott Hollowell, two hundred dollars. 6. I give unto Mary Hollowell, wife of Robert Hollowell, three hundred dollars. 7. I give unto Noah Hollowell, son of Robert Hollowell, six hundred dollars. 8. I give unto brother Irwin Hollowell six hundred dollars. 9. I have Irwin S. Hollowell one acre of ground, beginning at my corner in the middle of the dry fork near said Hollowell's dwelling house, runnibng down the dry fork 13 and 8/10 poles to a stake, thence S 50 E 12 and 8/10 poles to a stake, thence S 40 W 12 and 8/10 poles to a stake, thence N 50 W 12 and 8/10 poles to the beginning. 10. I give unto William Hollowell, Clayton Hollowell, Burk Hollowell and Webster Hollowell the following land. (to Wit:) Beginning at a hickory and white oak on the bank of dry fork, running with the lane fence (the true course to be found byreference being to an old deed recorded in the Caldwell County Clerk's Office) to a short distance past a crop fence to an old dividing line between me and Irwin Hollowell, by our father, Miles Hollowell, thence with said dividing line to a dogwood, B. F. Brown's corner, thence with Brown's line to a white oak, another of Brown's lines to poplar, the beginning corer of Roberts Military Survey. Irwin Hollowell and said Brown's corner with Irwin Hollowell's line to the beginning. The land to be divided according to quality and quantity into four equal parts, and one part to be given to each of the four above named persons. Clayton Hollowell to have the lot for his part that the house he now lives in may be in. I also give to William Hollowell, Clayton Hollowell, Burk Hollowell and Webster Hollowell each two hundred dollars. 11. I give unto Raily Hollowell two hundred dollars. 12. I give unto Isaac Newton Hollowell, son of Barbary Hollowell, one hundred and thirty dollars. 13. I give unto Morgan Hollowell one hundred and fifty dollars. 14. I give unto Anna, daughter of William Hollowell, one hundred thirty five dollars. 15. I give unto Betty Hollowell two hundred dollars. 16. The residue of my estate I will to be euqally divided amongt the following persons (to wit:) I. P. Hollowell, Robert Hollowell, Irwin S. Hollowell, William T. Hollowell, Irwin Brandon, Edwin Brandon, Penelope Larkins, Samuel Larkins, Henry Larkins, Carrol Larkins, Sovereign Larkins, John Larkins, Mary Larkins, Adline Larkins, Sovereign Hollowell and Noah Hollowell, but should surplus exceed the amount previously given then the surplus of said surplus is to be equally divided amongst all the persons named in this will, except the children under age whose shares are not to be increased by the surplus. I Lucretia Hollowell of the County of Trigg and State of Kentucky do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say: 1st. I do give to my brother Irwin Hollowell my negro woman Venus and her two children Minerva aged about two years and Alfred about six months old and their increase and said Irwin Hollowell is to give to all my brothers and sisters twelve months after my decease the sum of five hundred dollars to be equally divided out among them. Said Irwin Hollowell is to reserve to himself an equal portion of said five hundred dollars with the rest of my brothers and sisters. 2nd. I give to my sister Eliza A. R. Brandon, the land which I purchased of Lott Hollowell containing 85 acres on these terms that Lott Hollowell is to have the use and benefit of fifteen acres on the North corner of said land including the Mannor House and Spring to be laid off to him by my executor in manner that said executor may think most convenient and said Lott Hollowell is to have the benefit of getting fire wood and lumber anywhere on the uncleared land as long as said Lott Hollowell lives and at the death of said Lott Hollowell the fifteen acres of aforesaid with all the appurtances therewith belonging or in ....... give it to Eliza A. R. Brandon her heirs or a ...... Lott Hollowell...take the said fifteen acres of land on condition that he is to live on it and should he leave said land he is not to sell his interest therein but Eliza A. R. Brandon is to have the possession of it and use it as her own until said Lott Hollowell gives her six months notice in writing that he wishes to live on said fifteen acres of land again and Said Eliza A. R. Brandon is not bound to reserve wood or lumber for said Lott Hollowell, but he is to put wood and timber on.... with her during his term if the wood and timber last so long. 3rd. I will and desire that my executor sell my negro boy Sam either publickly or privately as he may think best and shortly after my decease sell my perishible estate and apply fifty dollars....the perishible property towards....up the family....yard and take a sufficient sum from said perishable estate and from the proceeds of the sale of my Negro boy Sam to defray my funeral expenses and to put grave stones to my grave, the residue of the proceeds of the sale of my Negro Sam and perishible estate I give to my brothers and sisters to be equally divided amongst them after paying my brother Noah Hollowell the sum of about twenty dollars which I owe him and other debts and expenses. And lastly. I do hereby appoint and constitute my brother Irwin Hollowell Executor of this my last will and testament. I Miles Hollowell of the County of Trigg and state of Kentucky being in perfect health of body and of sound mind memory and understanding (blessed be God for the same) but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and publish this my last will and do order that all my just debts and funeral expenses be duly paid and satisfied as soon as conveniently after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Ann Hollowell one bed and furnityre, one Cow and Calf and one horse which is to be any horse of my horses which she may choose to select, and the whole or such part of my household and kitchen furnityre which she may choose except such part of siad furniture as may hereafter in this will be otherwise disposed of, and also the house in which I live and so much of the 200 acre tract of land which I now live on as lies East of the branch of the Spring which is nearest my dwelling house and a negro man named Smith, and also a negro man named John during her natural life and at her decease the land is to go to my son Lott Hollowell and his heirs forever, and the negro man Smith and John is to be equally divided among my children as well also as what personal effects which I have hereby given to my said wife which may be remaining at her decease. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Lucretia a negro givl named Venus and a negro boy named Sam, two beds and furniture and a cow and calf. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Eliza Ann Brandon one hundred and twenty acres of land it being that portion of the 300 acre survey on which I now live which lies west of the small creek which runs through said tract of land, the west bank of said creeks to be line every where except where the creek has two channels one of which channels runs by a large spring is to be the line so as to leave one half of said spring attached to the land which I hereby give to my said daughter Eliza Ann Brandon and one hundred dollars. I give and bequeath unt my daughter Mary Hollowell a negro boy named Joe and a negro boy named Wade, one bed and furniture one cow and calf, and one hundred and fifty dollars and one desk. I give and bequeath unto my daughte Adaline Ann Hollowell a negro woman named Rachel and a negro boy named George and the increase of Rachel father the date of this will, a bed and furnitre and a cupboard. I give and bequeath unto my son Lott Hollowell the balance of the two hundred acre tract of land on which I now live bordered on the west by the tract of land which bequeathed to my daughter Eliza Ann Brandon and on the East by that which I gave to my wife during her natural life, and at the death of my said wife that portion of land which I gave to her during her natural [life] I give to my son Lott as aforesaid, and that tract of land which I purchased of John G. Reynolds known by its joining the land on which I reside on the East, a negro boy named Dudley, a bed and furniture, a cow and calf, one desk and book case, a table and six chairs. The tract of land which I give to my son Lott has a horse mill and distillery on it which mill and distillery with their utensils as well as all other apurtenances whatever pertaining to said land is to go on the said land to my said son Lott. I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Irvin Hollowell my old family Bible. And as touching all the rest residue and remainder of my estate real and personal, of what kind or nature soever the same may be, I give and devise to be equally divided among all my children.
