Will probated November term 1865, Wayne Co., NC. I, Thomas Hollowell, of the county of Wayne and the State of North Carolina being in feeble health but of sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows: First I give to my wife all my household and kitchen furniture, my buggie and harness also I have one note I hold against John Hollowell in the hands of my executors for them to pay to her the amount of interest so long as she may live. My will further is that my two sons Jesse and Thomas shall furnish my wife a bountiful support and in case they shall refuse at any time, I wish for her to have a dower laid off on the lands I leave them. Second I give to my Levi Hollowell two notes that I hold against him. Item 3rd I give to my granddaughter Elizabeth A. Stanton one note that I hold against her brother Thomas H. Stanton. Item 4th I give to my grandson Levi H. Massey one acre of land joining Dudley on the south side of the old road near Levi Winn's blacksmith shop. Item 5th I give to my son John Hollowell two shares in the Wilminghton and Weldon Railroad Company. Item 6th I give to my son Jesse Hollowell all the land I own lying on the east side of my Gin Branch also the upper part in the Big Fork down to where the bend of the Branch comes nearest together, and then down the run of Big Fork to the head of the Gin Branch and then to extend down the high water mark on the East side of the pond and then down the Canal to the run of Brook's Swamp except the privilege of enough land near the Gin House at the end of the Gin dam to put up a cotton screw also two shares in the Wilminghton and Weldon Railroad Company, also two lots in Dudley known at No. 5 and No. 15. Item 7th I give to my son Thomas L. Hollowell all the land I own on the west side of said Gin Branch from the line marked out for Jesse Hollowell to the aforesaid Brook's Swamp also one share in the Wilmington and Weldon Railroad Company, two lots in Dudley known as No. 13 and 14, and one note that I hold against the said Thomas L. Hollowell. Item 8th I wish my executors hereafter named to pay all my just debts out of my estate not heretofore named and given away. Item 9th my will and desire is that the balance of the amount due my estate in John Hollowell's hands after paying the interest to my wife during her life and the balance of my estate after paying my debts to be equally divided between my living children and to those deceased to the heirs of their body. Lastly I constitute and appoint my son John Hollowell and my grandson Levi H. I Catherine Hollowell of the county of Wayne and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory, but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence do make and declair this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say. First, after my decest a plane decent burial suitable to the wishes of my relations and friends. Item 1st I give and bequeath to my beloved son Jesse Hollowell in considerations of his kindness to me all the property that I have at his house except one small bed and sted and one sheat to him and his heirs for ever. Item 2nd I give and bequeath to my beloved son John Hollowell in considerations of his kindness to me all the property that I have at his house and all the money that I may have on hand or due me at my decest after taking out my burial expences except one small bed and sted and sheat to him and his heirs forever. Item 3rd I leave the ballance to be sold by my Executor here in after named and the money after paying the expenses if proved this my last will and testament be devided so as for my beloved deceast son Thomas L. Hollowell's children to have one third, my beloved son Levi Hollowell one third and my grand son Levi H. Massey threw natural affections and trouble he had with his father the other third to them and their heirs forever. Be it remembered that heretofore, to wit, on the 17th day of December in the year of our Lord 1822 the last will and testament of Josse Hollowell was produced to me William Hoggart, CCC, and proven by the oaths of James Disbon and Alexander Morris, two of the subscribing witnesses thereto, and was admitted to be recorded, which will read in the following manner and words, viz. Know all men by these presents that I, Josse Hollowell, of the County of Orange and State of Indiana, being weak of body but of sound mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows to wit. Firstly that all my debts be paid out of my estate. Secondly I give and bequeat to my beloved wife Elizabeth Hollowell during her widowhood for her own use, raising and education my children in a proper manner the following property - the plantation whereon I now reside, two mares known by the name of Face and Snider, one wagon and geers, five cows and calves, and two steers of her own choice, twenty-five head of hogs of her own chice, ten head of sheep of her own choice, and as much bacon and corn as my executors think will be sufficient for the use of herself family and stock, my crop of wheat flax and cotton, my household and kitchen furniture and farming utensils, except such articles as is hereafter mentioned, my riding saddle and bridle. Thirdly I give and bequeath to my son James Hollowell a certain tract of land which I purchased of General John Milroy lying and being in Lawrence County one mile and a half north of Palestine, and one brass mounted gun to him and his heirs forever. Fourthly I give and bequeath to my son John Hollowell the north-west quarter of Section thirty-five in Township two north of range one west, one half quarter section lying on the waters of Lost River which I purchased of Samuel Glenn and one Iron mounted rifle gun to him and his heirs forever. Fifthly I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Hollowell one bed and furniture, one third part of a lot in the town of Paoli where Jacob Rephens, Sr. now resides, and one cupboard at the expiration of my wife's widowhood. ixthly I give and bequest to my daughter Sally Hollowell one bed and furniture one lot in the town of Paoli which right at present is in the hands of Henry Hollowell and one desk at the expiration of my wife's widowhood. All that part of my father's estate that is undivided and a coming to me to be equally divided between my above named daughters. Seventhly I give and bequath to my son Josse Woodard Hollowell the tract of land where I now reside at the expiration of my wife's widowhood to him and his heirs forever. It is then my desire that all my unbequeathed property be sold at the discretion of my executors for the use of paying my just debts together with the money to be collected from those that are owing of me. Should there be any left after paying the same to be put on Interest and equally divided among my children as they marry or come of age. I do hereby appoint my brother John Hollowell and Henry Hollowell his son executors of this my last will and testament requesting that they may see the same and I hereby revoke and make void all other wills and testaments by me made and do publish and declare this to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 6th day of December in the year of our Lord 1822.
