Conrick & Kinderhorn Elkhounds

Maureen and Stuart Horner of the Kinderhorn Elkhounds purchased their first elkhound, Taroscken Tina (Tara), in 1978. They joined the British Elkhound Club (now renamed the Norwegian Elkhound Club of Great Britain) in the same year. To date they have owned or bred five UK Champions and currently own two bitches, one of whom is a veteran lady enoying her retirement. Stuart awards Challenge Certificates in elkhounds, and Maureen is an experienced judge at Open Show level, and is on the NECGB's A3 list. The Horners live in New Mills at the edge of England's beautiful Peak District, surrounded by open countryside just perfect for dog walkng! The Horners at their Silver Wedding Party
Spooky loves a cuddle! Vanessa McHugh is the Horners' daughter, and so grew up alongside several members of this handsome Nordic breed. Vanessa was given her first dog, Barlestone Henrik (Roo), a few weeks after her 21st birthday. She joined the Norwegian Elkhound Club of Great Britain (formerly the BEC) in 1987. She and her family live in Glossop, just a few miles away from New Mills. Glossop is an attractive town surrounded by lovely countryside which is sadly being destroyed by soulless developers. Vanessa has one ten year old bitch, Barlestone Nussi of Conrick (Spooky), one six year old Champion dog, Ch. Kinderhorn Dain of Conrick JW ShCM (Raider) and a two year old male, Naraena Knut av Conrick(Ekko). She also co-owns the Horners' youngest bitch and previously owned (as part of a syndicate) a multi-titled Champion dog who has had a good deal of success both in the UK and overseas. Vanessa is currently on the NECGB's A3 list, having passed the BEC Judges' Training Course with Distinction. Vanessa's sons, Paddy and Conor, think of Spooky as their sister. Conor has done well in Junior Handling, winning the BEC Trophy for Top Junior Handler four times, three of those years consequetively, but has now retired from competition. The affix Conrick was granted by the Kennel Club in 1998.
