Bogue - Vopa

Very common in Malta. Another popular fish with shore fishermen. Normally found in mid waters over sandy bottoms. Size can vary between 4 and 16 inches.

Cuckoo Wrasse - Parpanjol

Very colourful fish. Normally found on weedy bottoms. Only found in particular areas nowadays. Females can vary in colour from the male. Size 4 to 14 inches.

Saupe - Xilpa

Very common in Malta especially in inshore waters. Very strong fish that feeds on sea moss. Normally found in shoals.

Basse / White Bream - Sargu

Frequently found in Malta especially around rocky coasts. Best fished for in relatively rough weather or otherwise at night. Size can vary between 8 and 16 inches.

Morray Eel - Morina

Very common in Malta. Found on rocky bottoms. Ferocious when disturbed and mostly a nocturnal prowler. Can grow up to 5 feet long.

Conger Eel - Gringu

Very common in Malta. Can be found over various types of sea bottoms. Slimy to the touch and can be quite dangerous due to its vicious bite. Can grow considerably even up to 7 feet long.

Anchovy - Incova

Common in Maltese waters. Normally found in big shoals. When caught young it is very often known as Makku. The latter is very popular for fish burgers.

Scaldback - Lingwata

Not very frequently found in Malta.When seen it is normally over sandy bottoms. Size can vary between 6 and 10 inches.
