Nancy

Our Mom in the Spotlight for the week of

October 25th - October 31st is:

Nancy Schwerdt

Date of birth: : May 22nd 1954

Number of children: 1 on earth, 1 in heaven

Names and ages of children: : Robert Joseph Schwerdt (12, going on 20)

Where you live now: Lancaster, CA

Where you are from: Southern California

Where you would like to live: Anywhere where we can live in peace, freedom, and worship God the way He intended us to worship Him. I really like California, though.

Hobbies: Reading, drawing, writing and playing music, and singing, too

Favorite flower: Daisy

Favorite color: Yellow

Favorite food: Chocolate (a confirmed chocoholic!)

Favorite place: When I used to go camping with my family as a kid, we always went to the mountains...and there was a rock outcropping that I used to go sit on, before anyone got up in the morning, and welcome the sun as it rose to greet the morning.  God is so AWESOME!  When I need somewhere to escape, and can't get there physically, I take myself back to that rock and visit with God.

Favorite actor/actress: My favorite actor is Mel Gibson...besides the obvious good looks, and great acting, he is such a devout Catholic who attends daily Latin Mass (when his shooting schedule permits) with his entire family at a nearby parish.  I don't really have a favorite actress...there are so many out there, but none that I know beyond what is seen on the screen...maybe Jodie Foster (as an actress only, don't really care for her personal lifestyle)

Favorite movie/s: "Singin' in the Rain", "White Christmas", "Ben Hur", "Braveheart", "Contact" Long story about "Contact"...we attended the Planetary Society conference when the Mars probe landed and were given the opportunity to participate in a special priview performance of "Contact" a week prior to its national release. Having always been a big fan of Carl Sagan (putting aside his celebrity atheism), this movie was a true eye opener. I also read the book and throughout you could see the changes in Mr. Sagan from being an atheist to, through his scientific methods, trying to prove the existance of God, instead of His non-existance. I highly recommend this movie.

Favorite television show/s: StarTrek (and all its parts: the Original Series, the Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager) I am a devout Trekker.

Favorite singer/s: There's always....Placido Domingo....but I do like the Beatles (and then there was the Monkees - I have all their albums along with all the solo albums)...I'm really more of a classical music "freak"....I love Mozart, Beethoven, Holst, Bach, etc.

Favorite song/s: "Imagine" by John Lennon

Favorite author:  Anne McCaffrey or JRR Tolkien

Favorite book/s: McCaffrey's "Pern" series, and Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings"

Favorite Saint/s: St. Francis of Assisi (he was the patron saint of our diaconal formation group), St. Ann

Person/s I admire most: Our beloved Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa

Favorite quote or Scripture Verse: Psalm 139:5 "Behind me and before , you hem me in and rest your hand upon me."
