Sylvester Ussery was born 1833 in Hartsville, Maury Co., TN to Peter and Dianna Adkisson Ussery. He died May 1890 possibly in OK. On Jan. 20, 1853 in Green Co., MO he married Catherine Killion. She was born in 1836 in Missouri and died Feb 6, 1903. Their Children:

Josephine "Fina" Ussery was born Mar 28, 1867 in Dallas Co., MO to Sylvester Ussery. She died Aug 27, 1953 in Afton, IA. On Oct 2, 1887 in Saline Co., MO she married Thomas Benton McDonald who was born Mar 9, 1860 in Little Rock, MO and died Feb 27, 1938 in Union Co., IA. His parents were Jefferson McDonald and Mary Parmer.

Thomas and Josephine lived in Blackburn, Saline Co. around 1887. They were married in Marshall, Saline Co., on Oct. 2, 1887. They returned to Hickory Co., MO where Sylvester and Catherine Ussery and possibly Mary Parmer McDonald lived before 1890.

They moved to Illinois sometime after 1901, and were living in Colchester, McDonough Co., ILL in 1910. (per census) They were in Galesburg, Knox Co., ILL by 1916 and sometime around 1918 moved to Macksburg, Madison Co., Iowa. They finally settled in Afton, Union Co., IA where they resided until their deaths.

His first wife was Ethda Effie May Hawkins, born May 18, 1877 in MO and died Apr 27, 1952 in St. Louis, MO. They were married Dec 15, 1895 in Hickory Co. MO.

On Nov 20, 1916 in Saline Co., MO, he married a second time to Pearl Ann Knoch , who was born Sep 15, 1898 in Benton Co., MO and died Feb 26, 1980 in Lafayette Co., MO. She is buried in the Waverly Cemetery.

Harvey M.Knoch, 87, of Carrolton, died Sunday, Oct 17, at Carroll Co. Mem. Hosp. He was a former resident of Grand Pass.

Mr. Knoch was born Sept. 12, 1893, in Hastain, MO the son of Mikel K. and Martha Wilson Knoch. He was married to Myrtle Ussery, May 17, 1915 in Marshall. His wife preceded him in death in 1972.

Mr. Knoch, who spent his entire life in the Waverly and Grand Pass communities, was an employee of the US Gov. on the Missouri River. He attended the Waverly Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons, James L., New Orleans, La., and Lloyd Ray Knoch of Lawson; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one grt-grt granchild and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two infant children, a sister and three brothers.

Services were conducted at 1:30 pm Wednesday at the Gibson-Rice Funeral Home in Waverly. Burial was in Waverly Cemetery.

James' obituary was printed in the Usry Bul No. 72 as follows:

James William Ussery, 85 years old, died at 7:30 o'clock this morning after an extended illness at the home of his son, Cue Ussery on Highland Ave.

Mr. Ussery was born on May 14, 1855 in Missouri, and has been a resident of Lexington since moving here 48 years ago.

Besides Cue Ussery, he is survived by four other sons: William Ussery of Tennessee, IL; James Ussery of Newton, KS., Oliver Ussery of Lexington and Lue Ussery of Corder; a step-daughter Mrs. Ada Johnson of Kansas City, KS; four brothers, Fate Ussery of Maltz Bend; Bud Ussery (Peter David) of Cross Timbers, MO.; Johnson Ussery of Los Angeles; and Charles Ussery of Macomb, ILL; two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Billings of Galesburg, ILL; and Mrs. Josephine McDonald of Afton, ILL., and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The funeral services will be conducted by the Re. John M. Lindsay at 2:30 Sunday afternoon at the Winkler chapel.

Peter David "Bud" Ussery was born Feb 28, 1856 in Dallas Co., MO Cross Timbers, Hickory MO to Sylvester Ussery and Catherine Killion. He died Nov 30, 1942 in Cross Timbers , Hickory Co., MO. On October 27, 1878 in Hickory County he married Jeanette E. "Julia E" Benson who was born July 24, 1864 and died May 7, 1887 in Hickory Co, MO. She is buried in the Fairview Cemetery

On August 6, 1888 Peter David married a second time to Catherine Hoehn. She was born Feb 14, 1873 in Honey Township, Henry Co., MO and died Aug 4, 1966 in Hickory Co, MO. She is buried in the Cross Timbers Cemetery

The following is Catherine's obituary which was printed in the Springfield Leader and Press:

Catherine Hoehn Ussery was born Feb. 14, 1873 to William Joseph and Lena Hoehn and departed this life at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Icie Hart, at Preston, MO, Aug 4, 1966

She was converted at a "brush arbor" meeting near her farm home east of Preston, MO. in the summer of 1919. She later placed her membership with the Baptist Church to which she remained faithful and devoted until she departed this life at the age of 93 years 6 months and 21 days.

She was united in marriage to Peter David Ussery in Aug 1888. They spent their entire married life of 54 years in the Preston and Cross Timbers communitees. To this union nine children were born: six sons and three daughters.

She was preceded in death by Obie,who died at the age of three years, and by her husband, David, whose passing was Nov. 30, 1942.She is survived by five sons, Willie and George of Cross Timbers, MO; Streeter and Sylvester of Marshall, Mo.; and Homer Ussery of Glendale, CAlif.; three daughters, Mrs. Icie Hart, Preston, MO,; Mrs. Leona Nolte of Blackburn, MO and Mrs. Lena Morrison of Longview, WA; and one step-daughter Mrs. Edna Pendleton of Orrick, MO; 32 grandchildren; 94 great-grandchildren and several grt-grt grandchildren; two brothers, Asa and John Hoehn of Dodge City, KS and a host of relatives and friends.
