Both Robyn and I (Les) have been involved with German Shepherds since 1977 competing in Obedience, Conformation and Agility. We were fortunate to have great dogs, with five earning Utility Dog titles and four Agility titles (in the days when you could only get one title per dog) as well as earning many Excellent Medallions at German Shepherd Specialty Shows.
Our interest with Aussies was kindled
after reading an article in the AKC gazette during 1993. The
appearance of the Aussie and their working versatility and temperament
is what attracted us to them. After investigating what dogs
were in Australia we decided to import from the USA.
Over the past few years we have imported quality dogs to widen the available gene pool.
As a result of our breeding we have had resounding success with dogs
obtaining Grand Champion titles, Dual Obedience Champion titles,
Herding, Flyball and Agility titles. We have the first
Australian Shepherds to be approved as Therapy Dogs with others we
have bred following the same path.
Our dogs have been obtained from some of the most respectable and noted breeders in the USA, one of which has been recorded as an Australian Shepherd Club of America Hall of Fame Kennel. Many thanks must go to these breeders for imparting their wealth of experience and knowledge about the breed. All our adult dogs are eye tested and hip scored, our puppies are eye tested at six to eight weeks of age and we microchip all our dogs. We supply each puppy owner with a Certificate of Guarantee/Contract for their new addition and have an Open Phone Line for any questions that may arise. The temperament of all Sugargum dogs is friendly and outgoing to both humans and dogs and we welcome an inspection at any time. We believe it is important to improve the breed, so much thought has gone into our breeding program. We carefully monitor the growing litters before breeding with any of the parents again. We believe in quality, not quantity. We would also like to thank the many
people who have purchased our dogs and participated in the various
events obtaining titles and enjoying the companionship of this
wonderful breed. |
