Bagdasar Poochigian was born in Perri, Charsanjak. According to
"The History of the Armenians of Charsanjak," in 1908, as a young man, Bagdasar
Poochigian followed closely the various cultural and political activities going on in
Perri. He was active in political meetings and was in close contact with people who
fought and died for the Armenian cause.
From 1910 to 1912,
Bagdasar Poochigian was an executive member of the elementary school in Perri, Charsanjak,
and he was responsible for the library. In 1913, Bagdasar immigrated to the United
States.
Bagdasar Poochigian
was the son of Guiragos Poochigian (1870-1915) and Badaskan Ohanian. Bagdasar
married Sarah DerGarabedian (1894-1967) on January 12, 1912 in Perri, Kharpert. On August 6, 1913, Baghdasar Poochigian (1893-1963) arrived in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the SS Haverford, and he was met by his cousin, Ardashes
Poochigian. Bagdasar and Sarah
had two children, Armenouhy (Minnie) P. Poochigian Caton (b. 1925) and Arsen Poochigian
(b. 1930), who were both born in Binghamton, New York.
According to
daughter, Armenouhy (Minnie) Poochigian Caton (b. 1925), My father "came to the U.S.
in 1912 and later sent for passage for my mother Sarah DerGarabedian."
The book, "The History of the Armenians of
Charsanjak," says Bagdasar Poochigian was very excited about the publication of the
book in 1956.
