Some parents and educators have raved about some of these methods while others boo hiss them...Remember each child is different if one method worked for all autistic children it would be considered a cure...There is no cure, only trial and error...Good Luck

How can teach my child sign language when he won't look at me???
  • Everytime the child even glaces at you flash a sign
Whether it be a quick "I love you" or "hi Sweety"
  • Periphial vision in deaf children is acute, and though it may not seem the child is looking at you, they just might be
  • Trying sensory intergrative or SI approaches before engaging in a learning activity or conversation can be helpful.

Operating Agency: Autism Network for Hearing and Visually Impaired Person

About the program: The Autism Network for Hearing and Visually Impaired Persons [ANHVIP] has a data bank project to establish a network for communication, education, research, and advocacy for those with autism combined with a hearing or visual disability, and encourage the development of centers to diagnose and evaluate individuals with these disorders. Educating physicians in the community and presenting educational sessions at the ASA National Conference each year round out the objectives of the project. The Network publishes a newsletter every two months in a section of Advocate of ASA. Membership in the Autism Society of America is necessary to receive the newsletter.
