OBJECTIVES:
Collie Concern,
a nonprofit, self-funded organization, was founded in November, 1994 by Dawn A. MacCammon.
This rescue effort focuses on placing collies into qualified homes after
acquiring them from shelter or owner-surrender situations in the East Tennessee
area. The dogs that are taken in are spayed or neutered, groomed, heart
worm tested and put on preventive, dewormed, fully vaccinated, vet checked,
and any health problems are treated before placement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
In order
to qualify as an adoptive home for rescued collies, certain requirements
must be met:
-
A fenced yard
is a must for collie homes. As a herding breed, collies can be car
chasers--it's a natural instinct.
-
Financial responsibility
for the pet's future health care. Annual vaccinations, monthly heart worm
preventative, a good quality diet, as well as other emergencies that may
arise should be considered before adopting any pet.
-
Collies require
a certain amount of grooming. They aren't extremely high-maintenance dogs,
but an owner should plan on once weekly brushing and monthly bathing to
maintain their beautiful coats.
-
A pre-placement
interview usually occurs over the phone or in person. A screening process
is followed to insure that the dogs will be placed in the best possible
home.
-
An inspection
of the new home will be requested to check the yard and environment. If
the prospective home is too remote for a rescue member to check directly,
references will be checked instead.
-
If the prospective
family meets all of the requirements, a contract will be signed, an adoption
fee of $120 will be paid to Collie Concern, and the adoption will be complete.
-
Follow-up visits
or calls will be made to make sure that all is well with the new pet. If
for any reason the adoption does not work out, Collie Concern requires
that the dog be returned to our organization.
The above requirements
may seem strict. This insures that our rescued collies do not return to
a similar situation that led them to us in the first place.

INFORMATION:
If you are
interested in adopting one of these beautiful, intelligent dogs you may
contact Carol Newbeck (kalolagolf@peoplepc.com)
or Babbi Dilbeck (agilecollie@yahoo.com).
If you don't have room in your home at this time but love the breed, consider
making a donation to a rescue organization. Grooming time, supplies, food,
blankets, and foster homes, in addition to monetary contributions, are
always appreciated by any rescue group.
