Corps Council Report (May 31, 1999) |
April 1999 Stats:
Thrift store sales increased by 28% as compared to April of 1998. It is necessary to continue efforts to increase proceeds through sales as the bottom has fallen out of the recycle market. The Salvation Army recycle depot at Fenelon Falls has been closed. NRO is no longer collecting recyclables. St. Vincent de Paul has reported similar situations with respect to its recyclable materials. This is a situation which will require ongoing monitoring and will necessitate adjustments to our Thrift program.
The Family Services Department stats for April indicate a 25% increase in the number of families assisted, an increase of 15% in the number of total persons assisted and an increase of 16% in the total number of interviews over the same month last year. |
Breakfast Program:
The Breakfast Program continues to operate from the Temple gym on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. This program is being operated by volunteers from the Corps. Currently 15 to 20 people are coming for breakfast on those mornings. This program would not be possible without the time givenby the volunteers! |
Summer Camp Programs:
We have processed applications for the 3 spots available to us for Moms & Tots Camp and are close to filling the 35 spots allocated to us for Holiday Camp in August. |
Nobody's Perfect:
Our spring program has ended and instructors Sandra Lewis and Louise Oates report this was a very successful program. A number of parents have placed their names on a waiting list for the September/October program. |
United Way:
We would like to report a very smooth and uneventful withdrawal from the United Way of Peterborough. Feedback has been positive both from those within the Corps and the community. |
Parish Nurse Program:
We are ready to move into the next phase of planning for this program. A Peterborough Temple Health Committee is in the process of being formed to work together with an Ottawa Parish Nurse representative. It is anticipated that a period of one year will be required in order to complete a needs assessment and develop the appropriate program, should it be determined that there is indeed a need for same. |
Trustee Program:
Effective June 1, the Trustee Program will have 47 registered participants. Thirteen of these clients are sixteen - eighteen year olds, including serveral who have custody of infants and toddlers. This case load has grown from twelve participants in 1996 and we are thankful for the ministry opportunity provided through this program. |
Completed Staff Activities:
Homelessness Forum - attended by Joanne Minaker
Family Tracing Training - attended by Lynda Reid and Julie Levesque
Canatex 3 - completed by Peterborough Temple Emergency Operations Command Team
Emergency Preparedness Day (Evinrude Centre) - hosted by a number of Temple volunteers along with Major Bert Sharp of Gladstone Corps, Ottawa.
Social Services Workshop for Anglican Clergy - conducted by Darlene Carr. |
Emergency Preparedness Exhibit:
The Salvation Army exhibit received the highest ranking from those attending the various displays. It was most helpful to have a response vehicle from Ottawa available for the day. Most highly rated was the personal interaction of the volunteers hosting the display. Thanks to all! |
