I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your Office of application for Pension No. 144,767 , and to return it herewith, with such information as is furnished by the files of this Office.

It appears from the Rolls on file in this office, that Daniel Scantling was enrolled on the 10 day of October, 1861 at Canandaigua in Co. K , 98 Regiment of New York Volunteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war, and mustered into service as a Private on the 28 day of Nov., 1861, at Lyons, N. Y., in Co. K, 98 Regiment of New York Volunteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war. On the Muster Roll of Co. K of that Regiment, for the months of November & December, 1864, he is reported "Discharged by reason of Expiration of term of service - Return for Nov. 6th reports his discharge Nov. 28 '64. His name appears as Daniel Scantlin. The name Daniel St. Scantlin does not appear.
