Orange Cake

1 orage
1 cup raisins
1/3 cup walnuts
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup milk
2 cups sifted flour
1 tst baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup sugar
2 eggs

Squeeze orange and set juice aside. Grate orange rind. Grind with pulp, raisins and nuts. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt and sugar. Add shortening and 34 cup milk. Beat 300 stokes. Add eggs and rest of milk. Beat in orange mixture. Bake in greased pan in moderate oven. Pour orange juice when cool.
                

Date Loaf

1 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp. butter
1 cup dates
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup boiling water
1 1/2 cup flour

Cut up dates ina bowl. Sprinkle with baking soda and add boiling water. Leave 5 minutes. Add sugar, butter and vanilla. Mix well and add flour. Cherries, nuts or mixed fruit may be added if you desire.
                  

 Wacky Cake

1 cup white sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
3 tbsp cocoa
1 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. vinegar
5 tbsp shortening
1 cup lukewarm water

Sift the first 6 ingredient into a 9x9 inch ungreased pan. Make 3 holes in dry ingredients. In first hole put vanilla. In second hole put vinegar. In third hole put shortening. Pour the water over this. Stir thoroughly until blended. Bake at 350F for approximately 35 minutes.
