Dear Alice

Well it is Sun - no I mean Thursday, and I suppose I must try and write a few lines.

We are full of business here. Emma J. and Ben are moving today and I am cooking for all, and trying to get ready for painting inside. The chimney was finished yesterday and Mr Woodward commenced painting on the outside Saturday morning. The roof is slate color and the rest of the house will be about the same as before. Mr W- thinks I would like the inside grained in oak better than walnut, but I think I shall stick to the walnut. We are going to have the parlor, sitting room and bedroom papered. Emma J says tell you she wishes you were here so she could give you a job. They have got the carpets down and it is going to look real nice over there.

Aunt has just sent a note over to me asking me to tell you not to go to the City Saturday but wait till Sunday as they intend to go down then if nothing happens. I don't know whether it would be a good plan or not. You can do as you like.

You did not say whether you received the money order I sent but I suppose you did.

Nell was 18 Tuesday. She got a watch with a diamond in the case and had a party in the evening. she came over a few days before and wanted me to write and tell you that she would like to have you come. I told her I would tell you when I wrote and that you could consider that you had been invited, but of course you could not come. Frank went and he said they had a very pleasant time. She did not invite any boys but Frank. A little after nine four of the boys from her school came up to serenade them. The girls came out and after a little persuasion they went in, and they played and sang till nearly one oclock.

We were all surprised that you complained so much of the heat in your last letter. We supposed you liked warm weather.

From you mother

E. M. Watrous
