Stockton March 31 - 1892

Dear Alice:

I have come very near letting Thursday pass without writing. It is now 8 P.M. but I will try and write a few lines before I go to bed.

You may be thankful you have not been at home for the past two or three weeks for it is very unpleasant living in such confusion as we have been in. We are painting the kitchen and bathroom this week. Frank works till about 5 oclock and then I take the brush and paint a while. We seem to be very slow about it but I am in hopes to be through Saturday night.

We have had very bad weather for several days, and the prospect is not very good for getting the buggy out right away.

Emma J. was over yesterday and said she didn't know as she would be ready to go down as soon as the 9th. She and Mrs Grider have been intending to go down together on the boat and come home the same way, but I can't tell you anything for certain about it now.

I haven't done any sewing for some time. Aunt is making a red calico wrapper; she was over with it this afternoon to have me fix it a little. George's feet are better than they were.

The house is progressing slowly. Mr Snirder made a gate in our fence while he was here, so it is handy now to go over across lots.

I am very tired to night and keep making mistakes, so I think I had better stop and go to bed. Frank has gone and your father is asleep in his chair.

From your mother

E. M. Watrous.
