Dear Alice:
Your letter was received yesterday, and I was glad to hear you were recovering from your exertions here. After you went away I started out for a drive but it commenced to sprinkle before I had gone three blocks so I turned around and came home. Found Mrs Sherman here on my return: she came with the expecta tion of seeing you and seemed quite dissapointed that you had gone.
Mr Wells died Monday forenoon and was buried yesterday. We all attended the funeral. Your father rode with the pioneers and Fred and I went in the buggy. They had no minister but Mr Free man read an address at the house and at the grave the Pioneer burial service. It was his request that Mr Freeman officiate instead of a minister.
I was going to take Belle out to the cemetery this afternoon but it has been raining all morning.
There has been nothing more said to Mr Blaisdel about the chimney; he has been working every day this week on the front porch and it is not done yet. The house will not be done by the 1st of May or I am greatly mistaken.
Forrest has the mumps. I received a letter from Ethel Monday; she said her mother was about the same as when she wrote last, sits up about an hour a day to have her bed made. Uncle Henry was talking of visiting us in 1893 and taking in the Worlds Fair on the way.
Frank went down on the boat Saturday night. I presume you have seen him by this time. Your father says you need not mind about his clothes. Did you get your hat wet when you went down? I was afraid you would.
From your mother
E. M. Watrous.
