What happened to the little girls
Playing in the sand?
Now they're grown and on their own
Making their own stand.
What happened to the little boy
Who liked to catch the ball?
He's into cars and music now,
And grown so very tall!
What happened to the baby
Smiling in my arms?
He's older now and captivating
Others with his charms.
What happened to my plans for them?
What happened to my schemes?
I've seen them fade, one by one,
Like last night's sleeping dreams.
What happened to my children
With all their woes and strife?
What happened is just natural...
This thing which we call life!
Yesterday was payday,
And isn't it so funny?
Today I look around and say...
What happened to my money?
"Tomorrow I'm off of work,
Oh, boy, I'm sleeping in!"
But, then by some awful quirk,
I wake up at 4:10!
The house was clean, I went to bed,
Then by some terrible fate...
I got up in the morning, said,
"Oh, no, the kids were all up late!"
Nothing to do but wash the dishes,
Vacuum and mop and clean...
I tell you, if I had three wishes,
I'd change this dreary scene!
I'd stay in bed till noon and then
I'd wake up with a smile,
Sit on the couch, watch channel ten,
And do NOTHING for a while!
