Paul left home at a very early age, about 14 years old, to seek his own way in the world. He worked at various jobs to keep going. As he got older he had a problem with alcohol and compulsive gambling. This combination led to incarceration at Chino. Shortly prior to his release, he and another inmate escaped. He was shot, when found and serviced imprisonment in San Quintin, CA for three years. He was in bad shape from the bullet wound, doctors not believing he would live. He did, and made the most of his time there. Joined the prison choir. Completed his high school grades. He was paroled in the custody of sister Helen living in Elma. WA. While there he helped with the chicken ranch, cared for his nephews Bobby and Randy. He and his brother-in- law-Bob bought into a service station in Elma and both worked there. Paul's problem persisted for several years, leading to further incarceration. It is so good to see the "changed" Paul. He is looking to God to direct his life after spending time in AA and GA.
Paul has five children by former marriages. On June 1951 he married Johnnie Mae Griffin in Arkansas on the farm near Southwest City, MO. They had two daughters, Janice and Kathy. Paul was married to Pat Blakely and they had three girls. Both marriages ended in divorce.
Paul was a truck driver hauling used cars from California to Washington. Here he met Charlene (Butch) Onjies and they were married. They lived together for several years, but marriage ended in divorce. Charlene Onjies died in January 1996. They have a son, Paul David Jr (PD).
Paul resided in San Jose, California after spending several years working on a huge farm in Oklahoma. He and Wanda Varner (Wanda was a neighbor in Arkansas when they were teenagers) were managing an apartment complex in San Jose. Recently, in 1995, Paul retired and he and Wanda relocated to a 90 acre cattle ranch and raising young calves. Wanda's daughter Anita and her three daughters, Becky, Felicia, Patricia, live with them.
