What's Life all about?

"Being true to yourself,
and to those around you"

Very simple words...sometimes hard to live by.

Life can get so complicated.

The longer we live the more caught up we get in obligations, duties, responsibilities, regrets, unfulfilled dreams, and other peoples expectations.

Look around us, watch the news, read the paper, there is so much tragedy, so much hate, so much pain and sorrow.

It is indeed hard to clear our thoughts and remember "what life is all about", or at least what we hoped or expected it would be.

When I look at a child, I see blissful innocence.   They know what their life is all about, it's is pure and it's simple.  How beautiful is that.

So many times in my younger years things seemed so bad that if I ever got what I wished for I wouldn't be here to tell this story.

Now I am what I would call "mellowed out".  I almost always wear a smile.  It's probably annoying to some people :-)  I suspect some people wonder how and why I smile all the time.  It's not that I haven't had my share of trials and tribulations - I've had plenty.  I just refuse to sink into the unconscious state of not "seeing" the good... especially in people.

If you stop to think about it, what would life be without other people?  What would it be like if all people were the same, had the same purpose in life?  What if everyone had the answer to "what life all all about"?

There is no one right answer to what life is.   Life is what you want it to be.  Life is what you make of it.  Life can be anything you want it to be.

The only thing that I am sure of is that "people" are what my life is mostly about.

I wrote the following, it may not sound like much, but it is the philosophy that I live by.  It describes my one true conviction.

Ours is not to judge
nor to ask the reason why,
but to lend a hand
to a fellow man
and help him reach the sky.

Or as the good old Reverend Jesse Jackson said..."Never look down on anybody unless you're helping him up."

The dew of compassion is a tear...

You can dig a little
deeper here if you like :-)
