Morgan in June

Morgan's Very First Birthday Party: June 11, 2000

It's my birthday! It was much more fun the last year's! Mama and Dada threw a big party with a lot of help from Grandma Ruth & Grandma Vicki. Auntie Angie and Grandma Carol brought some food to feed the 37 people who were there. Mama made sandwiches with her homemade bread and she baked and decorated my pooh birthday cake. It was pretty and yummy.
The cake!

The fun part normally would have been EATING the cake! I do love to eat! But I was too sleepy after missing my nap. It was the last thing we did at the party after opening all my wonderful gifts. I didn't even get myself all messy... The one time Mama wanted me too.

See Morgan eating her birthday cake here.

Grandma Ruth and Grandpa Ron gathered pictures of some of my family as babies. At 3 months I looked just like Grandma Ruth. Dada and Grandpa looked exactly alike when they were babies. They made kind of game out of guessing who was who. Everyone figured out who Mama was, but Ulibee and Edilsa got all but one right. The one they didn't guess was my great-great grandfather on my Dada's side of the family. Grandpa Ron said he threw that one in to throw everyone off!

Here is Lynn, Edilsa & Ernest guessing, while Dawn entertains me!

My cousin Kendra helped me open the many wonderful gifts my friends and family gave me. I couldn't do it all myself, I was kind of sleepy, but I didn't want to sleep at my own birthday party. Mama and Dada even helped, but it still took a lot longer than I was ready to pay attention for.

Ulibee and Trevor gave me a duck on a stick that walks when I push it. I loved it immediately.

I got lots of pretty clothes, too. Michele and Derek gave me a cool soccer uniform. I'm stylin.

My friend Sydney from Iowa sent me a Bee Bop-Buildin' Singin' Snail Pail. It looks fun, even if it's hard to pronounce. Edilsa gave me an activity wagon with lots of buttons, I'm sure I'll love it! I got lots of bunnies and ducks. Grandpa Ron and Grandma Carol gave me a musical bunny! I had to hug it right away. Here I am with Grandpa Ron and Grandma Carol
Here are the gifts I was blessed with by my friends and family.

Many people traveled 6 hours or more to be there!! Michele and Derek flew from San Diego!!! Edilsa and Juanito (my boyfriend!), Jerry and Jessica, Jen, Melissa and Mikayla all drove from Pullman to be there. It was Mikayla's six month birthday! Melissa took three rolls of pictures of me at my party. Mel, Jen & Mikayla gave me blocks--definitely my Mom's favorite type of gift!--and a pretty green dress.

Everyone else drove from Tacoma, Graham and Seattle to be there. Even my Great-Grandma Maggie and Great-Grandpa Clell were able to come to my party! It was a very special gift that they were there. It was such a special day!

It's Auntie Angie and (not related to her) Uncle Shayne

Mama will have to develop and scan her two rolls of pictures, so everyone can see what a great time I had and who all was there!

Today I went to Pike's Place market. My very first trip to Seattle center since I was born. Mama went when she was six months pregnant, but that doesn't count! I shared a strawberry short cake with Ulibee and Mama and went to some cool shops with Edilsa, Juanito and Jessica, too. Dada, Jerry and Trevor went to a comic book store and Michele and Derek did their own thing. We still don't know! It was windy, but hopefully the pictures we took overlooking the Puget Sound will turn out nice!

My new favorite toy is the telephone. It beeps and rings and I can talk into it like Mama does. I have some pretend phones, one makes music, the other has a weird dial on it. Well, I can pretend that any toy is a telephone, including a butter dish when I'm playing in the kitchen. If you want to hear my phone conversation skills, click here.

I also like to hug Mama and Dada and my animals and give them kisses. Ohhhh. I even kiss my Mama's leg when she's working on the computer.

I started shaking my head no when I don't want something, like a lemon wedge! Even my bottle when I'm very tired.

We went camping this weekend at Mt. Hood. I love the outdoors. We went on a long hike, Mama and Dada were tired, but I didn't think it was all that much work sitting in a backpack for 4 miles. They wouldn't let me eat rocks, but I did sleep in a tent in a sleeping bag. The bestest part was having my very first roasted marshmallow! And second, and third ...

This was my second camping trip, but I was only six weeks old the first time, July 1999. That was near Yakima, Washington, on the way to Tacoma, my first long car trip and my first wedding (Don and Angie Berg's). We even went to Mt. Rainier. It's a lot bigger and prettier than Mt. Hood.

I also learned how to drink out of a straw and whistle! The folks were quite impressed. They only had one picture left on the roll of film, so I'll get that picture developed and scanned soon.

When we got home, Mama found tooth number seven peeking through, Dada told her I was upset and that my mouth probably hurt. He was right for once.

When we got home we went swimming! I wore my cute pooh swimsuit and drank gross pool water. Mama saw something strange at the bottom of the pool, and started laughing. Before she could say, "Look someone dropped their wallet in the pool!", she realized it was Dada's. She wasn't that surprised. It wasn't the first time Dada's gone swimming with his wallet in his pocket!

At the last minute Dada decided to go see Grandma Ruth and Grandma Vicki for Memorial Day. They had a big BBQ. I tried to run into the street, but there were too many people forming a human wall! I met Ian, such a cutie! He even shared a toy with me.

The crazy adults invented a game called GeriBall. Lynn, Shayne, Don, Angie, Vicki, Mama, Dada, Katie and Dillon all played. SOME people sat down to play and others stood up, then it turned into keep away. I think Grandma Vicki got some bruises in a scuffle.

Pictures coming soon!
