The Drake family was found to be living in Clam Harbour, Nova Scotia in 1871. For the 1871 census they were included with Polling Station 27 which included Jeddore N.S. and the surrounding area.


The Ronald Drake Family

Ronald Alexander Drake was married to Ester Smith. Ronald was from Nova Scotia and Ester was from Prince Edward Island. The family moved from Nova Scotia to P.E.I. after Earl James was born, about 1897. The family are all listed as belonging to the Church of England on the 1901 census.

Ronald Alexander Drake

Died: March 15, 1922

Ronald was born in Little Harbour, N.S. Ronald was a farmer and a fisherman according to the 1901 census. On the 1901 he is listed as a member of the Church of England. Ronald had an English background.

Ester Smith

Born: July 13, 1865? or 1867?
Married: Date Unknown
Died: February 26, 1902?

Ester was born in P.E.I. Ester was the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Smith. Ester grew up in Lot 33 in P.E.I. Ester was listed as Baptist on both the 1881 and 1891 census. On the 1901 she is listed as a member of the Church of England.

Ruth Leath Drake

Born: April 2 1892
Married: Date Unknown
Died: February 24, 1969

Ruth was born in Clam Harbour, Nova Scotia. Ruth married Bruce Raymond Diamond. They had two sons and two daughters. The boys were Robert Bruce, and Frederick Roy. The girls were Edith Bernice and Ester. Ester died as a baby in her mom's arms.

Frederick Roy Drake

Born: August 4, 1895
Married: Date Unknown
Died: October 17, 1919

Frederick was born in Nova Scotia. Frederick served in the 55th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. He enlisted August 27, 1915 in Sussex. He was a private. Frederick drowned crossing a lake. Frederick is buried at Aspenite Cemetary, Pakan, Alberta.

Earl James Drake

Born: October 14, 1897
Married: January 12, 1921
Died: November 28, 1940

Earl was born in Nova Scotia. Earl was a farmer and a fisherman. Earl married Florence Balfour MacLaren whom he met while he was overseas in Scotland. Earl died in 1940 a few days after being hit by a car. According to the newspaper article about the accident Earl saw some of the bloodiest fighting during the first world war, and fought in Vimy Ridge.

Earl in Second World War Book of Remembrance, Pg 12 This book is located on Parliament Hill, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and lists the war dead from both World Wars.

James Earl Drake

Born: June 18, 1900
Married: Date Unknown
Died: December 14, 1950

James was born in P.E.I. James was married to Anna MacDonald. She was older than him. James ran a bar/restaurant in the Boston area called The Drake Cafe. Supposedly there was a sign that said "Duck into the Drake Cafe". James was found dead in his hotel room in Florida? James died in a Miami hospital. He was visiting from Boston. His remains were returned to Boston for services and interment.
