In Pigot and Slater's Commercial Directory of Dumfriesshire, 1825-1826,
a William Johnstone is listed as Postmaster for Ecclefechan
He is also listed as such in 1837-38 edition of same directory and 1852
edition of Slater's National Commercial Directory.
Since our William was named a post runner, perhaps he went on to become
the postmaster there. But the name of Johnstone is very, very common
in that part of Dumfriesshire.
