The Hoddam parish church is in the countryside, about 2 miles west of Ecclefechan. The church was destroyed by fire the night of 2--3 February 1975. The graveyard surrounds the church ruins. Catherine is buried there with her husband John Kennedy and three of their children. The inscription on their tombstone reads, ``In memory of Margaret, daughter of John Kennedy in Ecclefechan who died the 18th June 1854 aged 23 years. Also Martha his daughter who died 21 Novr 1864 aged 39 years and William his son who died the 11th Dec 1865 aged 32 years. And Catherine Welsh his wife who died 26th Novr 1877 age 83 years. Also the above John Kennedy who died at Ecclefechan 10th Jany 1892 aged 89 years.''

The tombstone is to your right as you face the church from the road, somewhat near the road.

There is also a Hoddam Castle, another mile or two west of Hoddam church, overlooking the plain containing Hoddam church.
