Jabez and his brother Ed owned a circus (or perhaps a vaudeville show) around 1900. Ed did black face performance and Jabez managed the front office. Jabez and Ed married two Curl sisters. Jabez' wife, Clara, was an acrobat in the circus and Ed's wife worked in the office with Jabez. A flyer for the show shows Clara walking on her hands and Ed in black face. It reads:

Hill and Edwards. Presenting Their Comedy Act ``The Rehearsel.'' Don't claim to be the best, but we never fail to please. A Novel Combination with no dull moments. Difficult Feats of Contortion and Plenty of laughs.

Jabez was a big believer in exercise and from a standing start could easily jump a fire hydrant up to a few years before he died.
