Nora emigrated to the US about 1900 according to her 1910 census entry. She lived with her sister Ellen Gavin for a while. In particular, Nora was living with Ellen at 7843 South Sangamon street when Nora died.

In the 1900 census in Keokuk, Lee Co., Iowa, there is a Nora Shannon, born Dec. 1878 in Ireland, age 21, immigrated in 1895. She is a servant in the John Hubinger household at 1219 Washington Avenue. Others of the Shannon family had also immigrated to Keokuk at that time.
