According to a Vigo Co. historian, Dick: Graduated from Union Christian College in Merom in 1876; Master's, 1882. Went to Central Law School in Indianapolis; graduated in 1880. Taught mathematics at Union Christian. Elected to Indiana House in 1881. Owned and published the Terre Haute Courier in 1882, which he purchased from John Hardesty, and began publishing a daily edition sometime in 1883. Lost bid for Indiana State Senate in 1885. Left Indiana to become general counsel for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad in Garden City, Kansas, in 1885-86. Was superintendent of schools in Hagerstown, Wayne County, Indiana (date unknown). Moved to Oklahoma in about 1889, perhaps first living in Guthrie. Worked at Land Office(s); became Register of the U.S. Land Office in Woodward, Oklahoma, in 1904 (til 1908). Elected to Congress in 1908; served 1909-1920. Wrote book, ``Land Credits: A Plea for the American Farmer.'' Author of one or two law books.
Dick was also first president of the Oklahoma Christian Missionary society and a trustee of Phillips University.
