James' age looked like 4 in the 1850 census I read, but he is listed third, which tends to make you think his age was supposed to be 14. A WWW version of the census listed his age as 14, and he is age 24 in the 1860 census, 34 in 1870.

James H. Morgan, resident of Lexington, Indiana, entered the Union Army, 49th Indiana, Company D (which was recruited from Scott Co.) in 1861 and was a First Sergeant. He was promoted to First Lieutenant 22 Nov 1862 and was mustered out 29 Nov 1864.
