Bridget became a naturalized American citizen according to the 1920 census where she's age 68, listed with her children J. William, Ambrose D., and Thomas E., and one hired man. She immigrated to the USA in 1871 according to the 1900 census. The 1920 census says she immigrated in 1848, but that seems confused with her late husband's immigration date. One of her four children have died by the 1900 census.

Bridget's last name is known from the 1910 census, when Lock McCarthy is listed as John Lawler's brother-in-law. Her family probably is the McCarty (McCarthy) family who lived near her and John in the 1885 census: parents William and Margaret, children Patrick, Edward (who married Marcella Farrell), Lock, and Mary.

Bridget is related by blood to another branch of Lawlers. She (named as Mrs. John Lawler) and her brothers Patrick and Ed McCarthy (Ed married Marcella Farrell) are named as cousins of a Patrick William Lawlor in his obituary. Patrick William Lawlor died in Denver in 1916. That Patrick had lived in Jackson Twp,Crawford Co., Iowa for about 8 years prior to moving to Denver. Patrick also had a brother Richard who lived in Vail for several years in the 1880s and 1890s before returning to Ireland. Patrick William Lawlor married Katherine Barrett of Denison, Iowa in 1895. Bridget's mother, Margaret, was a Lawlor on that branch, according to research of descendents of that Lawlor family. No direct relationship between that Lawlor family and our own has been found, although this other branch also traces to Co. Laois.
