The presence of Elizabeth in this Matthews family is hinted at by TQ's letter saying that Rans Bird Green is a cousin of his father's.

Details about Elizabeth (name, age, and death,...) come from her descendents, in particular, records of Richard Davis.

A lot of the information on her descendents was obtained from the LDS Ancestor File database (which included records of Richard Davis).

Some other Green family information comes from another descendent, Don Gibson. According to Don, the Green family came directly from Pulaski County, Kentucky, to Fayette County, Indiana about 1816. Some of Daniel Green's sons than migrated to Grant County, IN circa 1840 and basically stayed there. Others of Daniel Green's brothers went to Rush County, IN and remained there.

Don notes that a lot of what he has heard about the Green family comes from anecdotal history without a lot of firm evidence.

One 1977 pamphlet about this Green family states that the mother of Elizabeth Matthews was a ``Ransbird of Wales and was titled.'' This is the only clue we have so far about the mother of this family. A passage about Thomas Green's ancestors excerpted by Don Gibson from this 1977 pamphlet follows:

John Green, surgeon, came with wife Joan Tattersall and children from Eng. in 1635 on the ``James'', settled in Providence RI and in 1640 with 12 others bought Narragansett. John Green, brother of Nathaniel Green-both sons of Jabez Green- moved from Rhode Island to South Carolina in 1770, 100 miles N. of Charleston and 40 or 50 miles from Camden. In 1775 3 sons of John threw tea into Charleston harbor and Tories raided Green home killing John and his wife ( some say the other 3 sons) Thomas, aged 15, escaped overland to RI and joined RI regiment. Thomas m. Elizabeth Matthews ``whose mother was a Ransbird of Wales and was titled''. Thomas in 1790 NC Census in Morgan District of Wilkes County, NC.''
