William Q. Matthews, his brother-in-law Ezra P. Hamilton, and several others
planted several trees on the Vancouver public square to commemorate
the US centennial in 1876. On Dec. 31st, they planted the trees and
placed a several items in a jar as time capsule, which they put under
the center of the six trees that they planted.
William's widow and children are in the 1880 census in Clark Co.,Washington.
