Sister Geraldine Fitzgerald named a Mary Reed as belonging in this John Reed's family, and Mary's existence is confirmed by her listing with her parents in the 1870 and 1880 censuses. There is a large Snyder monument right next to the John Charles Reed family tombstones in Villa Nova. It reads, ``Mary Reed, Wife of John Snyder, b. May 1857, d. June 1900.'' The Ed Welsh 1911 biography makes it certain that Mary Reed Snyder is this Mary Reed. (It also provides the exact June 18th death date.)

There are several inconsistencies from the census data for Mary. She's age 14 in 1870 and age 25 in 1880 (born in Ireland in both of those), which are reasonably close to her May 1857 birth date on her tombstone. In the 1900 census, where she is the wife of John Snyder, and they have Mary's mother, Mary living with them, it says Mary Snyder (the wife) was born in June of 1861 at sea. If she was born in 1861 during the Reed family's immigration from Ireland, that fits well with some other census facts: In 1920, Mary's brother John Reed gives 1861 as his immigration year, and in 1900, her sister Katherine Reed Welsh gives 1861 as her immigration year. However, Mary's mother, listed with her in the 1900 census, names 1870 as her immigration year, which is obviously inconsistent with Mary's birth year and place.

I didn't get the birth or death dates of John Snyder from the tombstone.
