Margaret and John were the first couple to apply for a marriage license in newly formed McPherson Co. They moved to Seneca, Nebraska, and lived there for a while, and also lived in Bingham, Nebraska. They finally settled near Walla Walla, Washington, where they were wheat farmers. After moving in from the farm, Margaret was a cook at a fraternity house at the college in Walla Walla.

Margaret died just after her 100th birthday. She was active up until the day she died.

John was the son of Christopher and Annie (Myers) Hazelbaker. He came west to Nebraska at age 19.
