She couldn't have a baby girl
It shattered your heart to see her go
You carried your loss for all these years
Evelyn nurtured your baby and mothered her well.
A year ago summer, Evelyn died
Her last wish was that her baby would find;
The time has come so let it be known
Terry
In Memory of My Mother Evelyn
Once there were two women who never knew each other,
The first gave you Life
One gave you a nationality, the other gave you a name.
One gave you up...
And now you ask me through your tears
You gave her one with a golden curl
With eyes so blue and skin so fair
Your baby girl with strawberry hair.
And you prayed for a family you did not know.
Evelyn nearly died having a son
and in her heart longed for another one.
Your baby girl came into her life,
It was July of Nineteen Forty-Five.
And at special moments you cried your tears
For the baby girl you lost so long ago
Who lived in your heart where no one would know.
She shared her heaven and walked her hell.
She gave her the values she needed to know
And tons of love as she watched her grow.
Her life had been spent full of pride
For the daughter who wept and held her hand
While tears of love carried her to God's Special Land.
A mother's prayer in her dying mind;
The woman whose sorrow had been her joy
In giving Evelyn a sister for her baby boy.
that Evelyn's sending your baby home!
Your gift to her is returned with love
from the Angels and Evelyn from high above!
One you do not remember - the other you call Mother.
Two different lives shaped to make yours one.
One became your guiding star - the other became your sun.
and the second taught you to live in it.
The first gave you a need for Love
and the second was there to give it.
One gave you the seed of talent, the other gave you an aim.
One gave you emotions, the other calmed your fears.
One saw your first sweet smile, the other dried your tears.
It was all that she could do.
The other prayed for a child...
And God led her straight to you.
The age old question through the years:
Heredity or Environment - which are you the product of?
Neither my darling, neither - Just two different kinds of Love.
