More Afghans To Crochet

Alternating rows of dark green, creamy tan, and rich cranberry give this afghan Christmasy warmth. The plaid look is achieved by vertically weaving six strands of yarn through the mesh background that's worked in chain and half double crochet stitches. For a pretty fringe, several inches of yarn are left at the ends of the woven stripes.

Finished size: Approx. 44 inches x 63 inches.
Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn, approximately.:
MC (Green) 24-1/2 ounces,
Color A (Red) 12 ounces,

3 rows MC, 1 row Color B, 3 rows MC, * 2 rows Color A, 1 row Color B, 2 rows Color A, 3 rows MC, 1 row Color B, 3 rows MC; repeat from * 5 times more.

WEAVING
Each row is woven vertically with 6 strands of yarn. Lay Afghan flat on a hard surface.
First Row: Thread yarn needle with six- 84 inch strands of MC. Hold afghan horizontally with beginning ch at lower right corner. Leaving a 7-inch length of yarn for fringe, insert needle down through ch below first ch-1 sp on Row 1 and go down in adjoining ch-1 sp on Row 2. Continue weaving up and down in each ch-1 sp across. Insert needle through ch at edge of Afghan. Pull row of weaving out evenly so Afghan does not pucker. Tie a knot close to each edge of Afghan.
Next Row: With MC and alternating up and down positions with those of preceding row, weave next row in same manner.
Continue weaving in the following color sequence:
1 Row of MC, 1 row Color B, 3 rows MC, * 2 rows Color A, 1 row Color B, 2 rows Color A, 3 rows MC, 1 row Color B, 3 rows MC; repeat MC; repeat from * 3 times more.
When weaving is completed, trim fringe ends evenly.
