Grandmother's Faded-Rose Throw


FINISHED SIZE: 30" x 50", not including fringe.
MATERIALS: Yarn: Worsted-weight brushed acrylic. Suggestion: Brunswick(Tm)Windmist Orlon(Tm), 50-gr.skeins, 9 Faded Rose #2824.
SIZE K Crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge: 2 stitches=1 inch
DIRECTIONS: Ch 102 to measure 50 inches.
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across = 101 stitches including starting ch. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each hdc across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Hdc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until 30 inches from beginning. Fasten off.
Fringe: Cut 2 (12 inch) strands for each tassel. Knot a tassel through every other stitch on each end of the throw.


Bow Stitch Afghan

This is a fun and easy project, even beginner level can achieve excellent results. Make in adult size, directions below, or adapt for Baby Afghan size.

FINISHED SIZE: 44" X 57" without fringe.
OPTIONAL SIZE: This pattern can be adapted to a BABY AFGHAN size which would be about 36"W x 40,or 45,46"L.You would decrease the loose chain to 118 more or less, then decrease the number of vertical bows.(Good Luck!) MATERIALS: "Knitting Pretty"4-ply knitting worsted weight yarn in 12-ounze skeins- Color: Fisherman (I made mine with Roses Dept.Store Creslan acrylic fiber in Lt.Gray);Crochet hook size G; yarn needle.
DIRECTIONS: With size G hook, loosely ch 155 - so chain is about 4 inches long.
Row 1: sc in second ch from hook; sc in each ch across, ch l, turn (154 sc). (Turning ch-l does not count as first sc of next row).
Row 2: Sc in each sc across row.
Rows 3-4: Repeat row 2.
Row 5: Sc in each of first 4 sc; * ch 7, skip next 6 sc and sc in each of next 4 sc; repeat from * across row; ch l, turn.
Row 6; Sc in each of first 4 sc; repeat from * across row ch l, turn.
Row 7-8: Repeat row 6.
Row 9: Sc in each of first 4 sc; * ch 3, insert hook under first row of ch sts and sc around the 4 rows of ch sts so the ch sts are pulled together (Bow Stitch); ch 3, sc in each of next 4 sc; repeat from * across row; ch l, turn.
Row 10: Sc in each of first 4 sc; ch 7, * [sc in each of next 4 sc, ch 6] three times; [sc in each of next 4 sc, ch 7] two times; repeat from * two more times except end last repeat with l sc in each of next 4 sc, ch 7, sc in last 4 sc, ch l, turn.
Row 11: Sc in each of first 4 sc; ch 7, skip ch-7 below and * [sc in each of next 4 sts, sc in each of next 6 ch] three times; [sc in each of next 4 sc, ch 7, skip ch-7 below] two times; repeat from * two more times except end last repeat with 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, ch 7, skip ch-7 below, sc in last 4 sc, ch l, turn.
Row 12: Sc in each of first 4 sc; * ch 7, skip ch-7 below, sc in each of next 34 sc, ch 7, skip ch-7 below and sc in each of next 4 sc; repeat from * two more times; ch l, turn.
Row 13: Repeat row 12.
Row 14: Sc in each of first 4 sc; * ch 3, sc around 4 rows of ch sts, ch3 (Bow Stitch); sc in each of next 34 sc; ch 3, sc around 4 rows of ch sts, ch 3, sc in each of next 4 sc; repeat from * two more times; ch l, turn.
Row 15-18: Repeat row 12.
Row 19: Repeat row 14.
Row 20-219: Continue to repeat rows 15 through 19 until there are a total of 43 bows (vertically) along each side of afghan.
Row 220: Sc in each of first 4 sc; * ch 7, skip bow st, sc in each of next 4 sc [ch 7, skip next 6 sc, sc in each of next 4 sc] three times, ch 7, skip bow st, sc in each of next 4 sc; repeat from * two more times; ch l, turn.
Row 221-224: Repeat rows 6 through 9.
Row 225: Sc in each of first 4 sc; * ch 6, sc in each of next 4 sc; repeat from * across row; ch l, turn.
Rows 226-229: Work l sc in each st below; ch l, turn(154 sc). Omit ch-l turn on last row and Fasten Off. Use yarn needle to weave in loose ends.
FRINGE: Wrap yarn around the narrow width of a 8" x 11 1/2" magazine five times. Cut yarn at one end to make five 16-inch strands of yarn. Hold these five strands together to form a cluster and fold yarn in half.Insert hook in first sc on bottom edge of afghan and pull through this loop. Pull yarn ends to tighten.
Place a fringe cluster in every third stitch across both the top and bottom edges of afghan. Trim ends to make even.
