Now for our last reunion information. It was great! It was held in Hurricane, Utah. Family members came from so many places! The weather was hot but the gathering place was nice. The kids had a place to play games, swim in the pond and we all had time for an nice visit. We enjoyed breakfast in the open; played games and had a great evening at the Senior Center with good food and a super program, put on by so many talented members.
And "What a delight it was to be Master of Ceremonies for the Saturday night Talent Show" stated Nina Klein. Her comment was "I was amazed at the outstanding talent we have among our wonderful family members."
We started out with a stirring poetry reading by John Thornton. Following this, our beloved Bob Owens (husband of Hazel Canova Owens) sang some of our old childhood favorite songs from our early days in Las Vegas when Bob was about 20 and Hazel was about 18. (By the way, for those of you who don't know, Bob and Hazel were married on Bob's 80th birthday and Hazel was 77. Remember, It's never too late!)
Our cousins, Margaret and Hank Boss (Aunt Olive Gould's daughter) played a wonderful duet on the piano and the mandolin. Lovely little Emily Canova recited her beautiful poem, "Prelude to Spring," her own creation. Nancy Maloy Miller danced a special "Two-Step," a comedic version that got a lot of laughs. A beautiful trio with Gwen Covington on violin, Sean Amodt on viola and Dena Humphries on piano moved us all deeply. Lynette Thornton and Barbara Lou Obray (Aunt Olive Gould Boyer's daughter), both highly accomplished pianists, thrilled us with brilliant piano solos. We enjoyed a reading by Romayne Anderson Phipps (Aunt Minnie Gould Anderson's daughter) and a charming piano presentation by Millie Lee (daughter of Cecil Thornton Lee). Such talent!!!
An unexpected and wonderful surprise occurred when our family members from Florida joined our talent show. None other than cousin Bert Canova and his family!!! They sang a medley of songs. It was really a thrill to hear them. And guess what! Our cousin (beautiful and talented and a well known recording artist) Joni Canova regaled us with both vocal and piano renditions. I was speechless (Hard to believe!). Little did I know how much fun it would be to introduce and watch and listen to such exciting talent. DON'T MISS THE NEXT REUNION.
We then had an auction. Items were donated by family members and the money raised was put into the kitty for our next reunion. The response was great. Pictures and family information was put on tables around the room for all to look at. Genealogy was discussed and the meeting was adjourned until 1998.
A great big THANK YOU to all of you who came to our last reunion in Hurricane, Utah, and thanks again for sending in your dues. It made the reunion possible. After all expences were paid, the Treassurer's Report shows a balance of $460.69 (Less postage for the mailing of the current newsletters). Your support was really wonderful. There 63 family members including a few visitors at the 1994 reunion. In 1996 there were 97 family members inattendance. Let's try for 128 in 1998. Gather your families together and let's get to know one another. We do have a great family.
