He married Margaret Spurgeon December 25, 1773 in Spartanburg District South Carolina. She was born 1755 in Spartanburg District South Carolina, and died 1806 in Amite Co., Mississippi.

Found by K. Casagranda in the Old Courthouse Museum in Marshall, Texas: a paper that stated that Thomas HOLDEN, Sr. was a member of the Boston Tea Party and shortly after left home never to return. Also the Marshall, Texas DAR was named after Thomas HOLDEN, Sr. although it has disbanded.
