The Hernandez Branch

Catalina Hernandez

Catalina is the first name to appear in our family history, but unfortunately there really isn't much know about her. We do know that though she was born Catalina she know by her family and friends as Chonita. The name Catalina is the Spanish form of Kaitlyn or Caitlyn and some times Katherine, or Kathy. As of this date there are four girls in our ever expanding family that carry the name that is spawned from the seed of our family. Although thier mothers did not name them after Catalina let us hope they pass on to them how very special there name is in this family. For Chonita's Legacy has spread across two counties and over six generations.

Expiridion Hernandez

And

Mary Ascension Perez,

Son of Catalina, Expiridion wedded Mary Ascension, who gave birth to Petra Maria Hernandez. Mary Ascension would die in child birth leaving the young Petra to be raised mostly by her grandmother Catalina. Catlina would remain under Expiridions roof until her death, thus giving her the opportunty to see the birth of her first two grandchildern Santos and Lupe.

The Paéz Branch

Basilio Paéz

And

Isabel Zamairipa / Paéz
Basilio married Isabel Zamairipa who gave birth to a son Jesus. Altough it's not really know what part of Mexico they lived in at the time, it is know that Isabel died early in Jesus's young life. Story has it that Basilio for some reason found himself in trouble with the law, (possible he ventured as a bandit) because of this he spent most of his final years in the mountains hiding. Mortally wounded one day he was carried back up to the mountain one last time, where sent word to have his young 10 yr old son Jesus brought up to him so he could say one last good bye.

Jesus and Maria

First U.S.Generation

Jesus Paiz

And

Petra Maria Hernandez -

Born: October 15, 1889 Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico

Died : Febuary 19, 1989 Los Angelos California

Born: August 1, 1890 Aujus Calintes Mexico

Died: October 24, 1976 Los Angelos California

After the death of his mother Isabel, Jesus was raised by his spinter aunts from his father Basillio's side of the family. His two aunts Macedonio and Jesus Paéz where well off members of thier Guadalajara community owning a restraunt and a dog breeding business.

Jesus would marry Petra Maria Hernandez who he had know since childhood and who would loving call "Petrita". After spending some time in a Guadalajara military school and in the services of Pancho Villas revolutionary army he would take his family north to the United States. It was here in Albuquergue, New Mexico that he would change his family name from Paéz to Paiz and open a shoe shop.

Daughter of Expiridion and Mary Ascension Hernandez, young Petra found an early but annoying friend in Jesus Paéz. He seemed to be always after her and to a very indepentent girl like her that was very that was could be very much a bother. Fianlly these to very differnt personalities found a way to come together and marry.

After having born to childern in Mexico and after having help her husband escape from a Mexican prisoner of war camp, they moved north to the United States. It was here that on the insistance of her best friend she changed her name from Petra Maria to Maria Petra Paiz.

Together Maria Petra and Jesus raised eight childern and eventually moved to Los Angelos California
