Clarence
Fast forward one year. The husband and
I are spending more time exploring the great outdoors in the
Rocky Mountains and Odie has gotten
over her puppyhood car sickness and comes along. Tigger, however, HATES the car and will never get over it. Tigger needs a companion. I mention one day to my
husband it would be nice to have a little orange kitty. Well, two
weeks later he brings home a 4 week old long haired, cross-eyed
orange little kitty we named Clarence
(remember "Daktari"?)
whose original destination was the same SPCA from whence Tigger had been liberated. Well, as luck would have it,
Clarence
was not yet weaned from his mother. He decided that Tigger should be his mother, "no such luck",
growls Tigger!!! Then Odie got the
call, and again Clarence was rejected. They
have since lived to regret it.
Clarence
has grown up and lived up to his name and he is, without a doubt,
the KING
in this house. He has no fear of anything and is sure that
complete obedience to his will and whim is merely his due. At 14
pounds he is a major attitude in a fluffy orange body. He sleeps
where HE
wants, he eats when, where, and what HE wants to (and no one here would dare gainsay
him). When we first brought Blitzen
(greyhound) home, there was the ritual of introducing him
(muzzled) to our little family. There was some concern about how
"cat safe" he might be, although he had passed the
initial test, we were very leery. We needn't have worried.
Moments after we arrived home, Clarence, without
any prompting, sauntered up to our (now) 80 pound greyhound, who
was all wild eyed and looking a lot like Hannibal Lecter (and
scaring the h*ll out of me, I might add) , hopped up on the sofa
(so as to be at the right height), stared him in the eyes and
then bopped him n the nose with his little furry (declawed) paw.
Stared a moment longer ("Do you understand what I'm saying
here, DOG?") and then hopped down and meandered off
in search of something interesting. (*YAWN*, Another dog). Blitzen has
never been anything but respectful (and a tad wary) of his feline
siblings since that moment. Long
Live the KING!!
