Week 2
July 5 - July 9
It isn't for everyone and not just anyone is selected.  It has taken twelve years to finally be accepted and attend, but I'm proud to say, "Here I am."

Sunday, 7/5/98
Back around 9:30 PM.  Decent trip back to the Academy.  Get in the room, unpack, make the bed.  Long day, won't take much to get to sleep this night!

Monday, 7/6/98
Up at 5:15 AM and run 2 miles.  Got the 1st Challenge run this Friday.  Only 1.8 miles, but over some "little" hills.  Budget and "Abnormal Psych" in the morning and Deadly Force Issues in the afternoon.  Library Orientation, Section Meeting, More Shirts?  Section shirts for the last two weeks of the Academy.  Guest Speaker after supper, interesting.  A what?!  Mocha Cappuccino, low fat.  Ah, yes.  Hanging out with the Grunge Boys.  My roommate and his friend are both from Seattle.  So, it's got to be latte time!  Back in and check the email.  Keep them cards and letters coming, folks!

Tuesday, 7/7/98
No running this morning.  Need to let the body regenerate itself.  Easy morning; free 8-9, picture taken at 9, Lecture on Deadly Force and the 4th Amendment in a VERY COLD auditorium.  Keep having lectures  and session meetings in there and I'm going to have to bring a parka!  Hypothermia is a sincere possibility after one hour!  Free time after lunch from 1-3 and then Effective Communications from 3-5 in the Biograph Theatre in Hogan's Alley.  "Flag Night" tonight.  A "social" where the members of the National Academy "mingle" with FBI and DEA trainees.  Looks like the Baltimore Office isn't getting any new FBI people.  Met some people FROM Maryland, but not getting assigned TO Maryland.  Stopped by and looked at the class rings.  Lots of money for something I normal don't wear.  Still can't decide if I should fork out the bucks.  Back to the room around 10PM.  Phone call from the folks, all's well out on the west coast.  Watch ballgame, AL leading NL 6-5 when lights go out.

Wednesday, 7/8/98
No run this morning.  Rain.  Eff Comm at 8.  Another lecture in the Auditorium at 10.  Man, I hope it's warmer than yesterday.  If not, there may be a mutiny!  Fortunately, it was.  Someone finally got the idea after all the chattering teeth.  More Deadly Force issues after lunch as well as "Budgetville".  Quick trip to mainside MCX after supper and then a cappuccino.  The Grunge Boys know how to live.  Going to take them up in the mountains of W.MD this weekend and let them see the "other" mountains.  With them being used to Mt. Ranier, Hood, St. Helen's and others, these should look like foothills.

Thursday, 7/9/98
Out for a 1 1/2 mile run this morning.  Breakfast then the comp lab before first class.  Section photos this morning - suit and tie.  Hey, something different from the green pullover shirts and khaki pants!  Full day of classes PLUS! the PT base line tests.  Can do nothing but improve.  Sit down with Igor after dinner and interview him for Eff Comm class next week.  Introduce him to the class, he does the same for me.  Interesting thoughts from this gentleman from Slovakia.  Good English, very well educated.  His one big complaint about the USA? - can't get a decent cup of coffee.  The Grunge Boys took care of that - a quad espresso did the trick.  Back to the room afterward and get things ready for the weekend.

Friday, 7/10/98

Forensics first thing.  Bloodstain Patterns.  Complete with pictures.  Big ones.  Lots of blood.  Challenge run at 10AM.   1.5 miles, a little shorter than what was expected.  Still had some people in this Session that are taking their PT base line tests this afternoon.  Didn't want to tire them out!  Thanks, Guys!   A little cooler today, light breeze, sunny.  Lunch, more PT this afternon.  Can't be anything too strenuous.  We just ran this morning, for Heaven's sake.  Legal issues from 3-5.  THEN  -  Head 'em up!  Move 'em out!!!  Back up to the mountains!
