Diana Gabaldon

One of my favorite authors, I am a big fan of her Outlander series. The first book, Outlander is the best, imho, but I have enjoyed the other 3 books immensely and I am looking forward to the 5th book.

The series follows the story of Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser. In 1945, Claire, while visiting Scotland touches a boulder in an ancient stone circle and is transported back in time to 1743 Scotland. There she meets Jamie Fraser, a Highlander. I won't give away more than that.

These books are usually found in the romance novel section, but in my opinion are not of the genre. These stories are big adventures that reach out and grab you. You really feel like you know the characters. It's nearly impossible to put these books down once you get started.

Jennifer Roberson wrote two books I have read recently Lady of the Glen and Lady of the Forest. Click on the link to find out more about them.

Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati. A novel that takes place around the same time Jamie & Claire are in America. They are also mentioned in the book!

Here Be Dragons by Sharon Kay Penman, a Welsh story, this is the first in a series of three.
