Having a rest after walking down the pier to the famous
Sydney Opera House

Stacey walking on Waikiki Beach far too early before
breakfast
Me paddling around in the shallows on this funny foam lilo
thing. Not very aerodynamic LOL.
This was the beach at Secret Island, part of the day tour we
did of Oahu. This was as close to Paradise as its possible to get in
my opinion!
This is the middle of our hotel room in Kona, it had a pond
with lots of fat goldfish in it and, would you believe it, coconut
palms. Minus the coconuts tho. Nice place to sit |
Us at the Jurassic Park sign. This is where most of
the movie was filmed and thats *the* log. Check out the awesome
cliffs in the background.
Bouganvillea was wild everywhere but these colourful hedges
lined our hotel carpark, metres and metres of them!
Postcard of Kona on the Big Island showing the coastline and
also the hotel we stayed in
This is the wonderful little tidepool that was blocked off
for swimming in. Lots of fishes and crabs!
This is the Kiluea crater and as you can see its a desolate
wasteland. Its like the surface of the moon or something. Its
very quiet and very eerie and VERY big!
A postcard showing the groovy ropy type lava. We saw
heaps of this walking about. Quite neat on a grand scale.
We drove down the Chain of Craters Road to see lava.
This was as close as we got - the plume is steam from the sea where lava
is
This is me walking down the path to go into the Thurston
Lava tube. Its quite odd, at the top is all lava and wasteland, and
then this little pocket of tropical forest |
This baby fern uncoiling was along the walkway up out of
the Thurston Lava Tube. This is in actuality about 10 inches high
and grows into the big ostrich type ferns that are all over the place. |
This is beloved on the surface of the Kiluea volcano. You
can see the steam plumes around him.
We went for a drive up to Kohala, and in one township this
line up of dead fridges caught J's eye
At another watefall visit, this lovely scene caught my eye,
and beloved duly produced a photo. The bamboo was about 20feet high,
maybe more. |
It was unbelievable how much it rained when we were in Hilo,
it was the only day we got rain in the entire holiday. But boy did it make
up for it, but we got to see some awesome waterfalls. This is me at
the Japanese Gardens which were pretty but a bit drab in the rain.
Rainbow Falls on a normal (and sunny hence the name) day |
Rainbow Falls the day we saw them after 7 inches of rain the
day before! |
