Certificate of Discharge
Know ye, That Joseph Chapman a Corperal of Captain ---- Braken's Company D, 5th Regiment of Indiana Volenteers who enlisted on the 8th day of October one thousand eight hundred and forty seven to serve duration of war with Mexico, is hereby HONORABLY DISCHARGED from the Army of the United States, this 23rd day of February, 1848, at Molena del Rey, Mexico by Surgeons certificate of disability. ( No objection to his being re-enlisted is known to exist.) Said Joseph Chapman was born in Mason County in the State of Kentucky is 53 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, Dark complexion, Dark eyes, Dark hair, and by occupation, when enlisted, a Farmer.
