Michael Schwartzenberger Jr and Marianne Fettig

Schwartzenberger, Michael Jr was born February 20, 1880, at Odessa, Russia. He died January 20, 1963 at Spokane, WA. Carpenter/Retired. Michael Jr. was the oldest surviving child of Michael Schwartzenberger and Barbara Phleiger.

He married Marianne Fettig on February 20, 1903 at Napoleon, North Dakota. Marianne was born at Gudhishiehunz, Russia on November 13, 1882, and she died April 30, 1973, at Spokane, WA. She was the daughter of Joseph Fettig and Barbara Mauch.

After they married Mike and Marianne built a one room Sod House on their own homestead, near his parents farm. When 3 kids were born they added 2 more sod rooms. In 1916 they moved a wood house onto the farm, and in 1919 they sold the farm and bought another, with a 4 room house. They added a basement which gave 3 more bedrooms. In 1926 they sold this farm and rented another, near Burnstad, ND. In 1928 they moved to Bismarck and bought an 8 room house, living there until 1943. They then moved to Spokane, WA, and in 1950 celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Mike passed away 10 days before their 60th anniversary.

Sebastian Schwartzenberger and Margaret Sperle

Schwartzenberger, Sebastian born October 25, 1882 at Odessa, South Russia. He died May 04, 1943 at Napoleon, ND. USA.

He married Margaretha Sperle on August 25, 1903 at Napoleon, ND. Margaretha Sperle was born on May 10, 1886, at South Russia. She died January 19, 1952 at Napoleon, ND. She was the daughter of Michael Sperle and Eva Heisler.

Johanna Schwartzenberger and John Johs

Schwartzenberger, Johanna born 20 February 1884 at Odessa, South Russia. She died 22 February 1965 at Napoleon, ND.

She married Johann "John" Johs on November 23, 1904 at Napoleon, ND. John Johs was born in March 11, 1879, at Kleinliebentol, South Russia. He died on May 11 1925 at his home near Weigel Township, Logan Co. ND. He was the son Andrew Johs and Helen Malson.

Funeral Services Held Monday For Mrs. Johanna Johs

Mrs. Johanna Johs, 81, died Thursday evening (April 22, 1965) at Wishek Hospital. She had been ill since November and in the hospital one day.
Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a.m. from St. Philip's Catholic Church, Rev. Louis G. Veit officiating and being assisted by Fr. Bolte of St. Anthony and Fr. Cote of Napoleon. Burial was in St. Anthony's Cemetery, rural Napoleon.

She was born Feb. 20, 1884, in Odessa, Russia, a daughter of Mike and Barbara Phleiger Schwartzenberger. She came to the United States with her parents in 1892, to Mcintosh County where she stayed for a few years before moving to Logan County. In 1948 she moved into Napoleon, where she remained until her death.
She was married to John Johs in 1904 in Mcintosh County. He died in 1925. Three sons and two daughters also preceded her in death.
Survivors include five sons, Sebastian, Bumstad; Andrew, Carl, John and Adam, all of Napoleon; three daughters, Mrs. John (Helen) Leier, Napoleon; Mrs. George (Mary) Weigel, Kintyre, and Mrs. Anton (Johanna) Homer, Bumstad; 66 grandchildren, and 75 greatgrandchildren.
Pallbearers were Edward, Joe and John C. Johs; George Weigel Jr.; Wendlin Becker and James A. Homer.
The Nickisch Funeral Home, Napoleon, had charge of arrangements.

Leier, Braddock; Pius Johs, Ellendale; Mr. and Mrs. Albinus Scherr, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Johs, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Johs, Mariann Johs, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Reidlinger, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Froeblich, Mrs. Roger Froeblich, Adam, Phyllis, Tony, Clara Leier, Florence Johs, Leo A. Johs, Joe Johs and James Homer, all of Bismarck.


Johann, 21 years old, traveled to Aberdeen, South Dakota, where he stayed with a friend, Thomas Kirchgasler.
Johann Johs homesteaded in 1904 on a farm in Section 6-133-73 in Shell Butte Township, North Dakota. He moved his family in 1914 to the northeast corner of Section 34-134-73 of Weigel Township. He owned one quarter of land and started a new farm where he raised his family. He was married to Johanna Schwartzenberger and they had 13 children: Sebastian, Barbara, Helen, Andrew, Carl, Mary Ann, Michael, Joseph, Thomas, John, Johanna, Eva and Adam. Johann Johs died on May II, 1925 and Mrs. Johs farmed with her family until 1948, when she moved to Napoleon. She died on April 22, 1965. Of the original farm, the house and barn remain today. Two of their sons farm the land: John owns three quarters and Adam owns one quarter of the land.

John Johs Passed Away Monday After Long Illness

Was One of Most Respected Citizens of Weigel Township

The many friends of John Johs of Weigel township have been grieved this week upon learning of his death, which occurred at his farm home there at seven o'clock Monday morning (May 11, 1925), after a lingering illness of several years due to diabetes. His last illness was only a matter of about ten days.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9:30 at St. Anthony church and interment was made at St. Anthony cemetery.
Deceased was for many years one of the best known and most highly respected men of his community and served faithfully his district as treasurer and in other positions of trust with highest honors.
He is survived by his wife and ten children, to all of whom the most sincere sympathy of his and their steadfast friends is poured out in their sad tribulation, brought to them through the loss of a loving husband and father.
Deceased was born in Odessa, South Russia, forty-six years ago.
