Arthur Robbins, Jr.

Generation Number 5

ARTHUR ROBBINS, JR.  (ARTHUR Sr., WILLIAM, THOMAS, THOMAS) was born about 1766 in Edgecomb County  NC, and died 13-Mar-1843 in Brunswick County, NC.  He married REBECCA ANDERSON about 1790.  She was born about 1774 in Brunswick County, NC, and died 26-Jan-1821 in Brunswick County, NC.

Arthur Robbins, Jr. was very likely the second son of Arthur Sr. and probably born in 1766 in Edgecombe County. The census records show that this date is most likely. It is likely that he and his older brother Benjamin came with his father and mother to Brunswick County just before his father was granted land by the King on "both sides of Shalotte Swamp" in southeastern Brunswick County, in 1769.

During the October term of court in 1792, Arthur, Sr., Arthur, Jr. and Benjamin were asked "to assist in the building of bridges over Town Creek, Allens Creek and Orton Creek and to open the road from Town Creek down to the Town of Brunswick" (on the Cape Fear River Bay also known as the Brunswick River).

The Brunswick County Real Estate transfers show that on 9 Jul 1793 (on page 155) Arthur Robbins, Jr. bought 50 acres of land from Benjamin Williams for 15 pounds.

We next hear of Arthur Jr. on 30 Jun 1796 when he was granted 125 acres of land on the west side of Mill Creek bordered by his own land and that of his brother Benjamin.

On 5 Apr 1798, Arthur Jr. was granted 50 acres of land on the west side of the main prong of Mill Creek.

The 1816 Minutes of the Mill Creek Baptist Church note "Arthur Robbins, Jun'r as a member, and again in the 1826 Minutes, he is shown as the Pastor of the Church.  In the 1836 Minutes, it was noted, presumably at some date well after they were originally written, the he was "deceased March 13th day 1843."

After Arthur Jr.'s death, the Cape Fear Baptist Association wrote in its Minutes, dated 1843, on page 7:

Report of Special Changes:
....Your Committee have also to record the loss which the Mill Creek Church and the Association have realized, in the death of Brother Arthur Robbins, who finished his earthly course since the last session of the Association. Brother Robbins came to the grave as a shock of corn fully ripe. His head was hoary with age. Forty years had he stood the herald of the mighty God to men. But the good and the useful must die. He is gathered unto his fathers. He is united to those who were; but while a mournful feeling crosses our mind, we sorrow not as  those who have no hope.

Chairman

M 26 - 45 (1765/1784) - Arthur, Jr. about 44 years old

F  26 - 45 (1765/1784) - Rebecca Anderson about 36 years old

I don't know where I got Rebecca's death date being 1821 because the Mill Creek Baptist Church Minutes record a "Rebecca(h)" in 1816, 1826, 1836, 1840(?), and last (1841-1844).  She is presumed to be the female in the 1800 census as being between 16 and 26 years old.  This would put her birth date as being between 1774 and 1784.

M 10 - 16 (1794/1800) - Thomas about 19 years old

Above is a photo of another page of the Minutes Book of the Mill Creek Baptist Church.  This page was a listing of the male members of the Church probably in 1836.  At the top of the page, it is written "Arthur Robbins   Past  deceased March 13th Day 1843.  Also note that both Thomas Robbins Sr. and Thomas Robbins, Jr. were members of the Church in 1836, but  were "Excluded" and then "Restored" in 1848.
