In September of
1996,we left Melbourne,Australia and our first
stop was HongKong.
Me at Victoria Peak-----H.K harbour-----Nathan Rd Kaloon
We stayed there for three nights and four days. Unfortunatly it was
the monsoon season and very humid. So we saw hot sunny days and very
much rain. The day we arrived thay put up the first Typhoon warning
for the season. We found that the shopping there was no cheaper than
in our own country.
Having just left a country that has one person to about every ten
square kilometer, we are gathered up in this great croud of people.
Even after midnight the city is still like our city of Bendigo, in
Australia, is like at it's busiest time of the year.
The smells of HongKong are something that one would have to try to
get used to very quickly if one were to stay there for any length
of time.[Especially the open fronted Delis].
The double decked busses that travel along Nathan Road only know
one speed, and that is flat out. They sway so much, you expect them
to tip over at any time... And still it rained!!!!!
In the photo's, from left to right, they are--- The Ginza---Star
Ferry---and women from a 700 year old village. Everyone in the
village has the name of Tang.
I suppose that one could say that Hong Kong is like no other place
on earth, but then every place is different to any other.
Hong Kong has, just like any large city, it great beauty and also
the parts that are not so lovely. Once you get off the main streets
and into the back lanes, you see that it is not all glitter.
The street are narrow and not so clean, but the average person in
these places always looks neat and tidy. {There are exceptions of
corse.}... AND STILL IT RAINED!!!!!!!!
The New Territories are a must see part of anyones trip to Hong Kong,
the mountains are a lush green everywhere you look, but then with
all the rain they get, is it any wonder.
The area that you can see in the backgroung of the top left picture,
is in what used to be the The Peoples Republic of China
and the river is the Shenzhen. The photo top right, is inside the
Buddist Monastery called the Bamboo Temple. The lower left picture,
is the only thing the Chinese use for scaffolding...Bamboo. This is
held together with plastic ties. The lower right picture is a
fish farm on the Shenzhen River.
From Hong Kong, our journey took us to England.
We had a stopover in Bangkok on the way, but we were not
allowed to leave the airport to have a look at anything.
If you have the time, you may like to continue with us
on our journey. Our next stop is London, so please stay
seated and enjoy the ride.
